I have been driving my 240 for a while and have noticed that when i give it gas it will hesitate and then sputter some and make the car jump while i am driving, and when i stop I can push on the gas,. all the way to the floor, but it will do nothing but sputter and act like it wants to die. eventually , after pumping the gas pedal it will suddenly get gas and rev up high and i will burn out, I have tried to fix this by replacing the fuel filter, but it didnt help any. im not sure if i should replace the fuel pump or not. the injectors are all working fine. if any body could help me, i would really appreciate it. also, i have a squeaky belt, i have replaced the belt and made sure it is tight enough, but it still squeaks, and i have no idea what to do.

check airflow voltages. the procedure has been covered in 240 technical. search for it.. It sounds like your airflow isnt registering correctly. you may just want to replace the drive belt with a fresh one.. yours may just be to glazed

if it makes any difference , something i forgot to mention before was that my muffler is covered on the inside wiht a fine black powder, carbon or somethign . i think it could be cause by the fuel/air mixture bein to fuel rich, but i dont no. but i havent had the muffler more than 3 weeks, i jus got it.

Yup, carbon on the tailpipe/muffler means running too rich. As Nistech said, check your airflow meter and your O2 sensor.

This is probably a dumb question, but where is the airflow meter and O2 sensor located?

Im not sure about the MAF, but the 02(s) are in the exhaust manifold and/or before the cat

O2 is indeed in the exhaust manifold, right before the downpipe.

The MAF is the metal "throat" in between the stock intake pipe and the air filter box. You will have to remove the hose clamps and bolts to remove the stock air pipe to get to the MAF.

Don't forget to check your coolant temp sensor connection for the green slime. This is one of the major causes of a rich mixture, highresistance in this curcuit is typical.
