In the other post I told everyone I was trying to find my "inner jeep" and actually imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so I thought. People there don't like my Rogue.

But on a serious note. I NEVER really thought there would be a comparison as they are both totally diffferent. But somebody at Nissan Marketing does??? Probably the same people who call a station wagon a crossover.

I just added exterior acccessories but it would never be equal capable wise off-road. I just dream it....lol!

Well I guess the google ads are still at it. Remember when I observed how a Ford Edge ad was promoting itself over a Nissan Murano on this forum? Well its going around folks!...lol.

The google ads, I mean. You would think with technology they could at least filter the ads to show up at the right place in this day and age. I just think it's funny thats all.

But I didn't make fun of the Ford Edge, I actually think Ford is doing great these days.

It's a car ad for a car forum -- that's pretty much why the ads are chosen that way.

Why should the Nissan forum show only Nissan ads (or the Jeep forum show only Jeep ads, etc)? Presumably we're already Nissan owners. There shouldn't be any need to preach to the choir.

I agree Casper, that ad seems like a real stretch to me. I wouldn't spend much of my time advertising against Jeep if I were running the Rogue product line. Perhaps the Xterra... but not the Rogue. The only thing I might say in their defense is that most Jeep owners really don't utilize them for much off-roading... but still the two vehicles are quite opposite in looks and utility.

If we can get a man on the moon, then why can't we develop software where ads can reach a particular market instead of shotgun advertising all over the internet in general?

It's like going into a Burger King and seeing a banner for a Big Mac on the window. Wouldn't it seem that you would increase the chances that a person would buy a Big Mac at a McDonald's. Or maybe the 1 or 2 customers who would change their mind and buy that burger....... and that 1 or 2 customers would eventually be ONE more person buying a Big Mac is a positive goal, well ONLY IF that advertising occurred .......which woud NEVER happen in the real world.

It's all about ad placement and it would be more prudent to reach the appropriate audience instead of cars being advertised in any car forum in general.

Does google have targeted ads about Microsoft products you should buy on their website? Heck I don't know. But I am sure if they not pushing microsoft products, they have the ability.

I remember back in the day of the internet beginning to get a foothold in society in general. I'm talking about Compuserve and AOL 1.0 days. when there was NO advertising online and when the internet was know as the Information Highway. No obtrusive ads and pop-ups. But I am realistic and all for progress and the future in general and understand that advertising is needed for any business model. The commercialization, I believed has made the internet more media enriched, aided in online technology, and another way for the consumer to have another option in their buying decisions.

Well I guess the online world is not the real world or maybe their is actually a Coke in the soda machine at Pepsi Headquarters.

Cross-marketing. It works.

On a side note, Jeep owners have nothing to be proud of.

They have such pathetic crapboxes as the Liberty (overweight and slow), the Patriot (ugliest thing on earth) and the Compass (oh, wait - it's uglier).

None of those is worth a damn off-road, so you can remind the Jeep guys that their cars (YES, CARS) aren't so hot in the wilderness either...

Jeep has lots of rebadged Dodge products that are more closely related to the PT Cruiser and Neon than a REAL Jeep.

I don't want to get into a mud flinging contest with Jeep, but honestly their product line is nowhere near what it was even 15 years ago. They've added the weak economy models like the Patriot and Compass but keep promoting them as the same rugged Jeeps as in the past, which is very untrue. These couldn't more different than an 80's or early 90's YJ or TJ. Also, quality is just horrendous, on all the reputable sources such as TrueDelta, Edmonds, JD Power the Jeeps and Dodges rank right near the bottom.

Gone are the days of rugged offroad Jeep machines with good reliablity, at least for the time being. It goes without saying that I'd take my Nissan over any Jeep or Dodge no matter what the cash incentives and price cuts, and if they want some off-raod competition the Xtrail is up to the task.
