okay, so I have an S14 with S14 blacktop sr.... the tachometer never worked properly with the KA beforehand, it does the same thing as before... bounces around sometimes, and if i'm lucky i can slap the dash and it works for a minute or so before dying/ flipping out again... so i know it has nothing to do with the engine harness because the same issue is going on with the new engine. I am thinking there is a short somewhere from ECU to tach in dash???? and how do i know it's not the tach itself?? am I safe to just try and replace the wire from the ecu to the dash harness? i have a multimeter but do not know what to look for.

also since the install of the SR, my speedo, odometer do not work. I also noticed the guy who did the install left a plug hanging underneath my car by the transmission, (not sure if this is relevent since i went from auto KA to manual SR) do you think I just need to hook up the speedo wires to the transmission or what?? i wanna give this all a shot before I take it to a reputable turbo shop and pay up the A$$ for electrical repairs... any clear answers would really help me out fellas. thanks in advance, i couldn't find crap in searching.

The issue with your tach sounds like either a stripped wire somewhere in the harness, or it could be as simple as one of the grounding screws for the tach is loose.

As for the speedo, the speed sensor probably wasn't plugged in. The sensor is a cylindrical thing at the end of the trans held in with a machine screw. It'll have a 2 wire plug dangling from it.

thanks... yeah i've messed around with the screws on the back of the tach, so it must be the wire i suppose - especially since it works when i slap the dash... thinking its touching metal somewhere and shorting it... i have the ecu pinout diagram and will check out that plug when i get a chance to get under the car.. thanks alot man that helps clear up alot of my questions, i'll keep you updated. thanks again brother
