Hello all,I have been doing a lot of research on this and went to a couple local shops for quotes.

Basically I found the unit. I'm gonna get the Viper 5901 for ~$200. Seems to fit my budget best.

http://www.amazon.com/Viper-59...YZEW4

I went to a local, highly reputable shop that said they would install the unit for $160 "+ Parts". I asked the guy what parts were involved and he told me that since there is the iKey I would need to get a bypass. So I asked him how much and he called the guy doing a install on a Maxima and said that it would be $350 total for the install. So $190 for the bypass unit.

He told me that I would hit the remote start and get in my car and all I would need to do is push the break in and shift to drive and go.

Sounded great to me.

I'm not extremely comfortable after reading a few guides of how to hook this system up. So $350 for the install that would be compatible with the iKey. This sounds like a good deal to me, any one want to chime in?

What bypass would you recommend or think they use? Maybe I can call them and ask if I can supply the bypass if the markup is extreme. They seemed extremely willing to install a unit not bought from them.

Thanks in advanced for your help.Seemed a little ridiculous to me that only this shop of the 5 that I went to said I would need a bypass.

They're likely going to use the dlpk or canmax400. Either one you can get for a lot less than they quoted you for the bypass.

If you're in chicago Broadfield a vendor on the site runs a shop i believe and has viper units. I believe it's in normal illinois according to his profile. Maybe you can get him to install it? just throwing that out there.

The DLPK is the only way to fly. It will operate exactly like a keyed ignition: get in the car, push the start button twice to engage the ignition circuit, then step on the brake to shut down the remote start, the car stays running and you drive away. Most shops seem to struggle with the push button Nissans. They wire it so it has to shut the starter off as soon as you open the door..... bogus.

So if you can find a shop up there that can properly install it using a DLPK..... you will be good to go.

Would this happen to be the unit you are talking about?

If yes, that is much better than $190. Lol.

Yes, that is it. I can match that price if you need one. Mine will even come flashed with the latest firmware...... that one will not!

Alright, before I get the stuff I just want to make sure of a few things.

Assuming that I use the 5901 and the DLPK1. If I press lock on the Viper remote does it lock my car or just arm the alarm?2. Same for unlocking, does it just disarm or does it unlock the car?3. Pressing the iKey button on the door handle will not disarm the alarm correct?4. When I get in my car once the remote start has been initiated what do I need to do to get rolling? Do I need to turn it off and then back on or just go?5. When I press remote start does the car stay locked? (Pardon the possibly dumb question.)6. Once I push the remote start on the Viper remote can I turn the engine off from the remote?7. Do I lose one of my iKeys?

Thanks,R.

All of these answers are assuming it's installed properly:

1) Pressing lock on the Viper will arm the Viper, arm factory security and lock the doors.

2) Pressing unlock on the Viper will disarm the Viper, disarm factory security and unlock the doors.

3) Pressing the iKey button on the door handle will not disarm the Viper.

4) When getting in the car, you simply push the OEM start button twice..... same thing as a normal ignition where you turn the key to ignition. The car does NOT have to shut off then you restart it.

5) The car stays locked when you remote start it.

6) Yes, simply push the start button on the Viper to shut it off.

7) You do not lose one of your iKeys. It also only takes one iKey to program the DLPK.

Hey Broadfield,

Do you happen to know if the DLPK will work with the Versa with iKey? My vehicle doesn't have the 'pushbutton' start instead having a cylinder to turn, but it doesn't need the key in the ignition. I've been toying with the idea of installing remote start, but the limitations my local custom auto shop (who btw were recomended by my local nissan dealership for this) made me rethink the issue.

DLPK will work for that vehicle.

Ok, rookie question. What is the difference between the DLPK and the CANMAX400? I've looked at both for my versa, as well as my other household vehicle (A 2002 Chevy Malibu). The DLPK doesn't support that model year, but the CANMAX400 does, and supports the Versa (not sure if ikey though).

I do like the ODBII interface these units seem to be doing. Major time and effort savings compared to the old bulldog kit that got me interested in doing it myself.

Finally do you know if the Versa has antigrind built in? Is this something that should affect what starter I buy? What two brands should I be considering before any other in terms of reliability?

You will want the DLPK for the Versa..... actually it is the only module recommended for a Versa "Smart Key".

The Malibu doesn't technically need an interface at all. All of the wires can be easily tapped into, and you can wire in a simple resistor to bypass the Passlock immobilizer.

Shoot me an email if you need any product...... I stock all Viper product and interfaces etc.
