man everything was running great and i pull my q out of my driveway for work today and notice a bunch of little oil spots. wondering if there is a common oil leak location on the 4.1 motors? i know the trans seal tends to go or so i have heard but this is oil. any help would be appreciated before i crawl under this monster.

thanks again nico

Check front and rear main seals- front seal leak will show up under the front crankshaft pully....rear main leak shows up where rear of engine mates with transmission. Other possibility is valve covers or oil pressure sender leaking{ look on sides of engine block}

That happened to me when one of the hoses from the power steering reservoir broke. PITA to clean!

the leak is only on the side with the pump on it and near the bellhousing

It's hard to locate a leak on an engine that's been leaking for a while. Remember that oil runs downhill and then blows back while you're driving the car. Your best bet is to clean everything up with engine degreaser - then moniter everything closely to pinpoint the location of your leak(s)

So it has lasted 95,000 miles beyond its design point. When were front and rear main seals last replaced? Valve covers resealed?

Looks like multiple leaks. What fluids are consistently low and require additions OIL + PS.

When you abuse machinery by not spending money it has ways of punishing you.

Well sounds like the abuse was from the PO....I think you will have alot of $$$ to put this car back together.

If you just want to limp it around town and tape it back together you can do that, but to fix properly will cost alot. you might consider cleaning up the bottom real good with a steam cleaner and taking to a good reliable mechanic and see what they say. At least 3k to get rolling if you want to make this into a livable car again.

Start off by cleaning it up really good so you can at least see what your dealing with, then go from there. You might have just one really good leak going on, who knows. For sure at 195k there are going to be issues, but finding the cause of that much gunk to start off is a big start.

The 2nd gen was so undersold I'm not sure what the market to find a replacement motor is going to look like....parts for our cars are not that plentiful. If the body and everything else is in good shape you may be able to get a Nissan re-man'ed motor but that will be 3-4k at minimum.

I'd get it completely cleaned so you can at least know the extent of the leaks...some might be hoses and easy repair, or front and rear seals also not a killer. Head gasgets also not killers, but you'd want to take it apart once and put back together once if your keeping it.

My take on any secondary, unnecessary vehicle is to remove the engine and just overhaul everything. Alternators, radiators, transmission coolers, pulleys, alternators, knock sensors, mail seals - all so easy out of the car.

In the car, often crippling services that leave you with 4x the time and a sore back.

This is of course contingent upon having the cash to buy all the parts. For anyone who is someone mechanical, removing an engine is really just a long process of logical steps that can be followed by someone with half a brain. Also, someone with a NOTEBOOK and/or CAMERA.

Pull it out!

I haven't pulled my Q45, but I don't see anything out of the ordinary with it.

Only thing I never quite understood was the FSM recommendation for an H22 engine (99-01 Honda prelude) should come out from the BOTTOM of the car, removing the crossmember, as there was not "adequate clearance" to remove from the top. There wasn't much, and we scraped it up going back in a touch, but there was at least 3/4" there.

The 41 seems pretty straightforward, good luck!
