Ok guys I am just now getting around to fixing a small fender bender on my Q. The front got clipped and the two black bumper pieces that stick out of the bumper cover got messed up beyond repair. Other then that the bumper cover and supporting brackets and front end are fine inclding all lights. I was planning on getting new cover and painting myself. After I took it all apart I was thinking about just cutting all the black that is not painted out and putting a mesh grill in it's place. It will be a big mouth on it but don't know if it will be too big. What do you guys think? If someone has Photoshop skills please help by seeing what you can do.

I would post pics but it's not letting me from my phone. Sorry

Thanks!

Personally, I think it will look too big. Just my opinion, but here's my quick photoshop, not the greatest but may give the overall idea.

Thank you for the PS!! It does look to be a bit much but I am going to try it and see how it looks. I have already used a dremel to give the car the mastectomy. Since I am going todo it the ghetto way I won't be out much cash nor time. (no paint and cheap mesh from home depot) I will be painting the mesh a gunmetal color to match my badges and a few other parts on the Q. The LP will also help break up all the mesh. If I have to scrap it in the end for a new cover no big deal. I am already over half done as I have sanded and filed my rough edges down, now I will just be making a trip to HD in the am for some mesh! I will post pics when I get a chance.

I might want to add that if it looks ok I will be taking it back apart to paint and add a thicker/higher quality mesh. Hope it does not look so bad once it's all done....

Ok so I got a few pics...... It's still 50/50 at this point. If it looks like a** it won't be going on the Q.

Bumper off and looking Naked!

Here is the damage to the boobs so they needed a lift.

Huge opening but have a plan of action to help offset all the mesh from the Photoshop Mikey did..

I was googling grill pics and this is what I think will look and work best, I will not have it chrome like in the pic though. I will have the same gunmetal metalic as other parts of my Q. Then again it might just all be scrap. Lol

Yea, I don't think it wil look good with that huge opening with the mesh, but looking at the QX56 grill that does look nicer.

Definately worth a shot

if your going to have that big of an area cut out, you need something to fill it with, i.e an oil cooler, trans cooler, or even a pair of PIAA 520 or Hella black majic fogs...either way something needs to fill all that dead space...oh, with that big of a opening, you should think about grafting in some sort of front lip to go under the bumper....If it were me, I'd be looking at chopping up maybe a 2005ish Titan front chin spoiler, color matching it and it should look good.

Yeah

I have a few options to help fill the space, I plan on adding a 1 1/2-2in border around the mesh (friend has plasma cutter to help)and the plate will help offset the opening. I really like the lip idea and I am going to look into it for sure!

Remember guys that this was not done on a bumper cover that I could reuse with out cutting this piece out. No matter how big the gap, it will still look better then a wrecked front end. If it turns out bad I just buy the new cover.
