Anyone else get a letter from Infiniti stating "the radiator fan motor may become in-operable, which may cause the engine coolant temperature to rise." ? They are extending the warranty to 96 months or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first and only applies to the radiator fan motor.

I got it for my 2007. What's the "fan control unit upgrade"? I remember some fan issue but thought it was older models.

I have not received that letter from Infiniti. So what is involved in fan control unit upgrade?

Waiting to hear back from the local dealer if this should be replaced "proactively" or wait for failure( the later does not sound fun)

There was a recall out a while back for 2006 Ms. The majority of them were done by the first owners most likely as the InfinitiNet software will automatically generate a line on a repair order for an applicable recall like this one was. There was only a limited range of effected models and the recall has to be two years old at least. If your car has been to a dealer in the last few years more likely than not this update has been performed.

However, this would not be the first time that an owner would hear about a new recall since you all tend to find out about this stuff before we get any information on them. I know it's a great system but... I would be very surprised if there were two issues though.

My letter says they're just extending the fan warranty should it go bad in the future. They included a little sticker to paste in the warranty book. I've already had a bunch of issues covered by TSB's (rack, gas tank, drivers seat) so I won't be surprised if I have the fan problem at some point.

Ehh, since its covered, Im not worried.

However, my (auxilary?) fan seems to run all the time. Dont know if thats normal or not. You know when you have the A/C on in a car, the auxiliary fan is usually running. Or when the engine gets really hot, the auxiliary fan will come on for ~30 seconds. Well it sounds like that runs in my car all the time, even though I don't have the A/C on.

^That may actually be a problem. When the old control units went bad they would cycle rapidly and not really work, I vaguely remember a few that stayed on all the time.

It sounds like the reasoning for that is they already addressed the root cause of the problem but in case something was damaged in a very high current circuit.

In any case that is a commendable move on their part imo.

2006 M-35I just received this letter last week. It has the sticker that you're supposed to put in the Owners manual.

I had the fan module changed with the last notice (10K miles ago). At that time, the fan did seem to run as soon as the car was started and I was concerned before the recall.

Today, it seems quite normal, but now it appears that the new fan module isn't the problem and we have to drive around with a chance of the fan motor failing in the middle of nowhere. A lot of help having a sticker, rather than a reliable fan motor.

What sort of preventative measure can you take for this, other than having a spare fan/motor in the trunk? Anyone for a cross country drive?

Hey be nice to the sticker what did it do to you? It's the new Magic sticker. Nah in all honesty the problem was with the high current fan control unit and not the motor itself. If you have ever noticed how the fans work in these cars, there are no set steps like old models.

Don't stress it too much the fan isn't going to die on you. However if it does for some reason go out it will be covered for a while. I think it is more of a piece of mind thing. It would not make sense for them to send a letter with a vague explanation and not expect people to scratch their heads and get worried.

However Nissan did the same thing with some of their CVT transmissions so it seems that is what they are trying to do to keep everyone happy for a while.

I received the letter about two weeks ago.

q for Steve the Tech, so if the fan stops working, resulting in the coolant temp rising resulting in the engine overheating and causing damage, would the engine then be covered? i ask because the caption about "only covers the fan motor" is in bold. But i would think any resulting effects from that failure should be covered, no?

thanks for any clarification you can provide!

Got mine 2 weeks ago and put the letter with my little sticker in the glove box. I am going to get a couple things fixed under warranty in the following week....I will ask if they can do the "upgrade" now instead of later.

I received the letter yesterday (nice to know Infiniti knows me!). Didn't it say that the car's "logic" will prevent overheating if this problem occurs by limiting engine speed?

Let us know what they tell you--if they want you to wait until a problem occurs or if they will replace it prophylactically.
