Hey guys. The other day I was on amazon and I came across this, and so I bought it:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ...oduct

Line out -> composite AV cable for Ipods. I was a little unhappy with the sound quality of my ipod which was hooked up though a cable from the headphone jack of the ipod, to the aux inputs.

Immediately when I hooked this cable up I could tell the difference. The sound coming out of the ipod is at the line-out level, so the volume is controlled by the car stereo, and not the ipod. The sound is 100% improved!

I also bought one of these, so that I can take the usb plug from the above cable, and plug it to the cigarette lighter attachment, in order to charge the ipod at the same time.

The reviews on amazon say the composite cable doesnt work with IPOD touches running os 3.0, and although I do have a brand new IPOD touch running os 3.0, I havent tested it to confirm. I use my old ipod in my car. However, I encourage everyone currently connecting their ipod via the headphone jack to consider this solution.

Bunch of negative coments out there saying to not upgrade any firmware as apple is making so you have to buy their cables to get it to work.

I had a problem when I bought a new IPOD nano to use in my last car. I had an after market Double DIN unit and it wouldn't charge the new IPOD. I had to buy an adapter so that it would charge. Here is the link of what I had. Other than that I never had a problem with either of my two IPODs or IPHONE. At least not one that I ever noticed.

Well with analog audio a lot of quality can be lost on really sucky cables, so ya a quality cable can make a huge difference. But you really can only take it so far as the IPod has really bad sound quality even at its best. Maybe if Apple spent an addition $.05 per IPod we would have something decent sounding, but I guess 5 cents times a couple million is a lot of money saved...

Indeed, apple wants you to buy their product, which is exactly the same wires, but costs $30 more.

I purchased this from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/i-Sound-...r=8-1

and I can confirm that both audio and video work for both iPhone 2G and iPhone 3Gs both with 3.0 upgrade.
