Motor- RB25det

Trans- rb20det

Going from Original Clutch, PP and Flywheel to ACT HD pp and 6 puck clutch.

OK so after 2 days, 2 slaves, 2 masters, a new clutch, pressure plate and flywheel- my clutch does not work. The last thing I have to do is put in my spare trans but I wanted to post up before I did so. Heres the deal.

This weekend I replaced my clutch, due to the fact that my car because increasingly harder to get in gear when the clutch was depressed. I removed the slave cylinder and replaced it thinking that was probably the culprit, fully bleeding the system and it was not. Now the clutch was pretty much non existant. When the car was on and in neutral, depressing the clutch pedal did not allow the car to go into gear AT ALL. not even reverse.

So I figured ok---- its all original stuff-- its probably screwed up so lets order a new clutch. I put everything in-- and still the same problem. We even adjusted the rod on the clutch pedal for more throw.

Here are the kickers-

New Clutch, PP Flywheel

New Master Cylinder

New Slave Culinder

When you push the clutch, the slave pushed the fork the appropriate distance. The fork/Throwout bearing definately work they were tested before gpogm pm the car.

Now--- Even though we 100% checked everything I thought MAYBE we put the clutch disk on backwards.... Doubtful-- but at this point my only hope.. So I drop the trans again last night. (The 2nd time only took an hour compared to the 4 it took originally... +1 for experience) only to find out thats not the case...so back to square 1

So where I sit now-- the original trans is on the ground I have a spare trans. The clutch and PP are off. and I am waiting for someone with a tad more experience to mention something I may have missed so that I dont go through all the effort of getting the car back together to have the same issue again...

Can anyone help!!?????

Thanks in advance-

Eric

I know at least on the RB25det transmissions there are two different collars that the throwout bearing could be sitting on. They are different lengths and could cause what your describing. Could be a situation where you are just borderline able to get it into gear until the system warms up or something.

My buddy had the total opposite problem, and his clutch wouldn't engage! I told him it was the collar/sleeve and he thought I was crazy until he got a new one from the dealer.

have you just tried backing the adjuster way out behind the clutch pedal?

ya we maxed the pedal throw last night before dropping it again and it made no difference....Even when the car is off-- and the car is in gear... when you depress the clutch the car wont roll--- as if its stuck in gear. Its really odd--

the fork and bearing work just fine, at least when the trans is off--- and when we slide the trans on---it gets pressure.... I just dont get it

Okay, you obviously didn't understand what I was talking about. The sleeve that the throwout bearing is pressed onto could be the problem. There are two different length sleeves that are available. Yours might be the wrong one... IE you have the short one and the long one is needed. This can/will cause a situation where there is not nearly enough pedal adjustment at the master cylinder.

OHhhh ok gotcha--- yeah now I see what your getting at... the only thing is--- prior to the clutch failing leading to the change--- the sleeve that is in there worked.....Any idea on where to get a longer sleeve?

Here is a quick picture of the bearings that I am using. The one that is on the right came from the trans and was re used. The one on the left came from the spare trans---

AS you can see the height looks to be the same on both---- which is why they didnt work--- hwoever the one on the right looks as if the bearing was pressed too far down--- and it no longer has the reach--- however if you press the clutch in--- it should at least want to go in gear a little bit in my opinion...

Anyway check them out

yeah that bearing came on a spare trans i picked up that day---- so heres an interesting link that i found--- maybe it will help shed some light on the process. Also I didnt grease the clutch before putting it in--- so that may be the issue. We will def do that when we go to push it back in but the throwout collar being too short may be an issue. Ill get the other bearing pressed in when i go back home and we will see what that does.

If you dont have time to read the thread they basically just say force it and see what happens lol. Since i have a spare trans---- if nothing else works-- -then I will just be doing that.

And once again if anyone knows where to get a longer throwout collar please fill me in. Cause i would love to know---seems like a much smarter idea.

i had that problem about a month ago. went to the junkyard fine. got ready to leave the junkyard w/ the goodies and the clutch was tough to get in gear. after about 2min of driving it went completely out. turned out I had a leaky clutch slave. after i replaced it i still had a similar problem on the test run, but i fixed it by holding the clutch pedal to floor, and pushing the pin on the clutch slave all the way back with the bleeder open. Sounds like youve narrowed yours down though, id like to know how yours turns out...
