If you all dont mind, this is going to be my thread where I make notes to myself and ask questions.... I just finished the first part..... And thats organization.....

I have all of my FSM pages printed, and all of my diagrams ready to go.... All my hoses and parts are organized according to price, and then according to their function.... I also went out and got some tools.... beyond what a normal shop should have, I got a 10mm gear wrench (FYI at sears they do sell them individually) and a 6mm allen socket for the TB... I skipped the flex head socket, since I have a flex adapter for regular sockets.... plus it was almost $10 just for that one thing!! If I need it, I can always run to sears again and pick one up.....

So now, first thing.... Is there anything else I should pick up before heading to the shop on wednesday?? I have all the basic tools like sockets, wrenches, extensions, (a really expensive) torque wrench, drain pans, etc.......

I'm going to be going through the same thing here in a couple of days Wes. I get the hoses for x-mas and then it is Plenum time. This will be a good way to join forces and help each other out on the little things that aren't easily accesible through the search feature. Wanna Race? Just kidding Man. You would win. I take a break like every 10 minutes. I think I have ADD. But then again, doesn't everyone?

Wow, that will be great.... Im starting the 26th....... And if we raced, I dont think I would win... Seriously, I work the whole time (no breaks except to stretch my back, it sucks being tall and bending over all day) but I go slow to make sure I dont screw up... last time i hurried I striped the threads on the Tstat cover and almost had a little disaster, had I not been at this same shop im going to!! (thank god for tap dies)...

Ive done probably as much research on this as humanly possible, and Ill be interested to hear what you come up with....

So the 26th it is. Excellent. Combined we should be able to cruise through this job with ease. Yet again, another example of how NICO is worth its weight in gold.

I am gonna hit up the search tonight for tips. How are you staying organized? I was just going to plastic baggy everything.

I also thought I would share this...... Here is my comprehensive list of things to do under the plenum.....

1. Clean plenum-- duh2. Clean EGR valve and pipe, and replace gasket.... Removal of pipe is recommended if the valve looks badly clogged.....3. Clean IAC, and replace gasket4. Clean TB and replace gasket5. Replce PCV valve6. Clean PCV hoses, that arent getting replaced if any7. Inspect (but recommended to replace) knock sensors and harness8. Clean the V part of the engine9. Clean spark plugs10 Clean valve covers11. Ohm injectors12. Inspect fuel lines13. Remove intake runners and clean (DAEDALUS said that the metal gaskets need not be replaced)

I think thats pretty comprehensive, if I left anything out let me know

Yeah I have those too......

I also thought about Ohming the coils

Here are the FSM pages you need......

EM-6EM-20EM-25EF-EC-232EF-EC-233

If you have the infiniti parts list CD, here are the section diagrams you need......

118 a/b148 a/b211 a/b

section 140 is also marginally helpful......

Thanks elwesso,

I am glad I don't have to do this until 37K more miles. I had such a fiasco just changing the spark plugs ;)

BTW, I measured all my spark plugs coils, and they were between 1.4K - 1.7K Ohms.

Haha.... i remember asking things like what is HICAS, how you do valve decarbs, the typical n00b question of what the plenum is, and other things like that..... Great times.... But probably not for you....

Oh and hitman that was a year ago... :D Well in Feb when i got my precious baby!!!

O.k. Wes,

I have all the parts on the list you sent me except:

none of the 14099 hoses (air hoses) &

14056-64U10 Hose-Water14056-64U08 Hose-Water14056-64U04 Hose-Water

And I have 2 hoses that were not on the list:

They are:

11823-60U62 Hose Assy-Blow By, A11823-60U63 Hose-Blow By, A

What I am wondering is if perhaps the 94 Q's are a little different than the '92s, concerning the "water hoses" and the "blow by" hoses.

Now with the 14099 group (air hoses), I have a feeling that is a seperate kit that I need to purchase from scottsdale.

BTW, Scottsdale really hooked it up. I had a total of $985 worth of parts and they knocked off $455. Along with the hoses I got a fuel pump, thermostat, strainer for the transmission, and a oil pan gasket. Awesome!!

Ok... I have started....

I have the TB off (easy) and I have all of the obvious connections undone (many various hoses)... I disconnected the IAC, since I couldnt get the hose off and I still cant get it undone..... It seems like something is still fastened down, but I just cant get it off...

What are some of the connections underneath the plenum that arent obvious...... If someone is reading this and knows whats going on, please call my cell phone at 765-621-8336......

Well first off Id like to thank 911/Q45 for his help so far....

http://www.nissaninfiniticlub....river

So far, Ive learned 2 things.... I hate this damn thing, and dont even THINK about trying to save hoses.... Just forget about it, it will save you the ulcers!!!

Now, I have a couple concerns..... I havent got the plenum off yet... There is something on the drivers side holding it down... It feels like the metal hoses, but ive chopped both those hoses back by the IAC (combined $60.. :( :( ).... It feels like its on the back, drivers side "leg" of the plenum... I have the plenum basically off on the passenger side, but it aint happening on the drivers side....

Heres a picture:

Id also like to add there is about an inch of play on the drivers side..... It sounds like a clanking noise (metal on metal)... As advised by 911/Q45, I removed the bracket right under where the TB meets the plenum.... I still have a few more things to remove underneath it, but those will be easy when the time comes......

Oh Jesus, how am I ever gonna get this thing put back together!!

I also had another concern.. I ripped up a bunch of those little itty bitty hoses, like that go to the FIC... IS there a size I can go and buy them in bulk, or do i have to buy them individually from Joe...

I think I can just about see the small bolt that holds that double metal pipe to the plenum near the EGR valve. Maybe the light from the flash is better than your work light. Keep digging, you're almost there.

Well.... I went back over and undid that small bolt we talked about underneath the TB area... It definitely feels like its toward the back...... No luck...

BTW, Im gonna get knife happy tomorrow... Gonna chop everything I can find....

I may call you tomorrow.... What times are best??

I'll be around after 9:30AM Pacific time/12:30 your time. I think your problem is further back than the TB, try lifting and working underneath from the passenger side.

Would there be anything under there that I could bend (and mess up) by forcing the plenum up...? Im gonna have the resident engine expert (my grandpa) and have him take a gander.

Ill work on getting some better pictures tomrrow. I have started the writeup process, and its looking very good. I am starting to wish I had it when doing this job.

So far, I ahve the plenum 90% off, TB clean, etc.....

You won't bend anything if you don't take it higher than your picture shows. Prop it up with a can or big deep socket so you can work with both hands and shine a bright light in there. Sometimes a dental mirror is handy too. Be sure to put paper towels inside the exposed intake runners to keep things from dropping in, don't ask how I know that!

I have started on my plenum, as well.

There is one hose I am worried about. It connects to the upper part of the plenum closest to the firewall, on the drivers side, in between the first and second runner, relatively speaking.

It appears that the hose runs from the plenum then to a connector and proceeds to the master cylinder, or the thing that the master cylinder is connected to.

I have checked my diagrams and it was not on there. Other than that, things are going fine. I can wiggle it a little bit, but that is about it.

Back to the puzzle.........

THats the brake booster hose.. There are 2 sections, one that goes to the plenum, and one that goes to the booster.... I ordered the one that goes to the plenum seperately from what the list said.... Mine was so terrible that I couldnt get it to do anything.... I cut it right off the bat..... If you get into a predicament, feel free to call my cell number (its listed above and I gave it to you)...

Also, I have the drivers side cover undone, and now the EGR is in the way  .... If someone knows how to get the whole tube off, let me know (email or cell, cell preferably)... I looked under the car, and it looks like great fun to get that thing off... Thanks.....

Cool, thanks. I am gonna be cutting that one too.

Also, is it normal to have coolant leaking out of the hoses around the TB area? I just cut a hose and coolant came pouring out into the V area. Any thoughts??

Phase one is over!!! My baby octopus is sitting right here next to me. Before I go cleaning the tentacles and what not, I will post a pic of what she looks like later tonight. As well as a pic of the V area.

Wes, I didn't even have to get the tube you are speaking of off. Are you talking about that metal pipe that connects to the EGR?or the ones that run underneath where the TB would be located?
