I thought I show you a picture of all these items together, since I always was interested in these items at one time or another but found it rather difficult to find pictures online. Eventually I did. Thanks to all here who have inspired me. All these mods cost me around $350 all together. Not that bad. Included is my home depot mod for the grill to help protect the exposed radiator. Its $10 brown gutter protector but I reversed it so you can see the mesh side. Actually had a bird hit my grill area today. It has stop small rocks and insects from what I can tell. Last picture is closeup of hood protector.

Casperfun, your links are not working. You have linked directly to a Flickr photo 'set' and not the actual picture.

If you go into your flickr account, click on the photo => select 'All Sizes' it should give you the photo along with a URL at the bottom that you can copy and paste to your links above.

Where did you purchase your nerf bars? I haven't been able to find a set for any less than 340, I'd like to get that number down to 200 if possible, but I don't think that'll happen.

Also, how do the bars install, is there much drilling required or is there existing holes that you can bolt on to? How solid are they, is there much flex when you stand on them?

I got my nerf bars from ebay. Mine were $149 with free shipping. There was a 5'16'' drilling for 1 particular hole that I skipped on both side. But the set-up was quite solid that it didnt matter in the end. Still very strong indeed. Even though the price was very affordable, it came with very large brackets and pieces for the bottom attachment. So very solid. Trust me I did research and look at other diagrams for nerf bars. On some brackets, pieces seem small. SO I was happy. People say these things help prevent door dings. Don't know if true yet since my nerf bars are not banged up and since I park far from harms way. LOL. Anyways, I like the look personally. Makes the Rogue look more ruggid.

I doubt they would be useful for that. They are far too low to the ground to be useful. Unless there is an 'intimidation' factor I'm not seeing.

I had Nerf bars on my Pathfinder... for looks and functionality. They helped me access the roof racks on top... and getting in and out of the vehicle. The downside is they are subjected to a lot of road debris thrown up from the front tires (salt & sand during winter) and tend to get beat up and rusted.

I thought so too that it may be too low to prevent such damage. Probably meant for trucks when I researched nerf bars since they are higher. Since I was new to this side bar thing I was hoping it could prevent such damage. Maybe people would be careful seeing those things stick out. Personally I thought the Rogue was low enough that it was mostly decorative. But actually my mother and gf use it to get in the vehicle. And when changing the baby, you can rest your feet there on passenger side. Space limited since baby seat behind driver in my case. Its easier to clean rear roof and front windows since I represent the shorter half of the population. It hardly if ever snows here so salt is not that much a issue. If the bars did rust I always use that rust remover stuff that changes rust into a black primer like the color of the bars. I wax them to. I still get 23mpg in the city with my AWD. So weight not a issue. Personally I rarely use them when entering or exiting the vehicle. I do have to step out farther which I had to get accustomed too. Took 1-2 hours to figure out to do the drivers side then only 30 minutes to do the passenger now that you know what to do.

This is funny...

I always thought Nerf bars originated from off road vehicles which use them for added protection from rocks. It appears their origins are from dirt track cars where they are used to prevent wheel to wheel contact when you 'Nerf' or bump another car.

Note: Do not try to 'Nerf' cars on public roads!

The hood deflector/protector is only offered in a dark tinted (smoke) semi-transparent plastic.

These deflectors are not normally available in the USA (they are produced/sold in Canada), but you can special order one. Everything you need to know about the hood deflector and how to order one can be found in the Official Rogue FAQ under Accessories.

Here is the direct link to the Hood Deflector thread to help you on your way...

Its only availiable in smoke.

Yah, the hood deflector thread seemed old and was of no use when I tried the links to buy one of these hood protectors. I think the links to the item were dead or no longer availiable for sale.

Fortunately, I bumped into this website and found one at http://www.woodash.com:

http://www.wooddash.com/item/N...009_2

If you use to fall special code you get an additional 10% off. From what I can tell it is the same type that member paulvanharte has. I always wanted that one after seeing it, so I was lucky. But mine cost about $80 with shipping, lower in price than what is on the thread. Better news.

I guess this company imports it from Canada. Fast delievery too.

The only reason I bought it is because I actually got a chip where the protector is now covering. So its for practical reasons as well as aesthetic. Easy to put one, with plastic bumpons and 3M plastic protective tape to prevent paint damage. Very solid, like the way screws surround the outer perimeter for a solid connection. No wind noise at highway speeds. Quiet. At least more so then the bloody noise from the backwell during the rain.

You can get clear bra, like me, if you don't like to have a smoke deflector, like me, on your car.

I thought I show you a close-up of the hood protector for those who are interested.

These are the bumpons on my hood.

I bought the same hood guard from Nissan for a reasonable price, and installed it myself. No drilling, just some really innovative pressure clips, and the thing is mounted very solid, no movement or noise at highway speeds. Install is very doable, but I'd suggest two people to keep things perfectly aligned.

What brand were the nerf bars that you bought? There are a few to choose from, I want to buy one with solid design because I intend to use them to access the roof rack and cargo box. I'm looking at a really reaonable price for a set by Aries Automotive, but not sure if they are a good manufactuer, anybody know? Thanks.

Actually mine are Black Horse and I bought them from Auto Toys. During my research, the word is that Aries was a good brand for nerf bars. Unfortunately, it was out of my price range. I read about a guy who attached Aries nerf bars on his Nissan Rogue and he had no problem putting them on. Moreover, he stated no drilling was required which was good. On mine, I had to drill this 1 hole on the weld area of each side. I skipped that part. It still rock solid. It had really large heavy duty brackets which made me confident it would hold. Unlike some of the diagrams and pieces that are with some others. Anyways, Aries is a good brand I heard. Actually I really wanted them but could not afford it at the time.

Here's a site for Aries Nerf bars for $269. http://www.realtruck.com/aries....html

This picture on the left has Aries. While the other Rogue on top is a different owner.

I also have a smoke hood deflector and I bought it from Auto Frills. You must call them to order it because it doesn't show on their website. Cost $75 plus shipping. Easy to install. Here's their info.

The AutoFrills.com website is still active. However like rjchoops said, you have to call them directly as it's not listed on their website.

Good to know you've found another source though!
