Hey guys, just picked up a 93' 240sx rolling chassis for FREE!!!! called the guy to nego. the price and he said come pick it up. Well now she is mine and have a ton of ideas, but would like your help.

Question 1. I have a local guy that is selling his 97' with an SR20 in it already. It is an SE and in decent shape and he only wants a little over $6000. Should I buy this one from him, take out the SR and put it in the 93', throw some paint on her, and get rid of her. Then setup the 97' the way I like?

#2. After all the swaps and info that all you guys know and have shared, what engine would you drop in this thing? SR, RB25-26, VQ35-45, LS1, etc. (I really want a turbo-ed engine, but that 450sx is SWEET!!) As you can see from the pics thing car is bare bones and in pretty good shape. Everything that was under the hood, except the KA, is not in the trunk. Also, I do have a budget, so make this answer your budget decision. Oh, and don't add in how much it my cost for a garage or tools, have that part covered. AND this does have to be a daily driver, for now!!!!

#3. Answer #2 with an unlimited budget!!! What would you put in your car if you had any choice without the issue of cost!!!

Thanx guys...

To answer your questions...

#1 - I would much prefer an s14 over an s13, but that chassis is very clean looking and I doubt the s14 is in that good of shape.

#2 - I would drop in the best motor I could afford. It also depends on your goal for the car. Depending on how handy you are, you could probably drop in a Ford 302 for as much or less than an SR20.

#3 - If I didn't have a budget, definitely a V8.

1. If you swap the SR into the s13 I doubt (even with drift tax) that you would break even on your sale

2. Really depends on your budget, and since you said that it has to be a daily driver then I would choose either SR or KA.

3. Fully built KA with stroker kit and Twin Turbos or Sr with the same setup.

Nothing FORD is going in this car, first of all... LOL

Yeah, I leaning towards the infiniti 4.5L V-8, but have some more info to find out on that. Price is not that bad, (mid 90's 4.5L is around $600-700, but would have to get some of the component's and wiring.) just need to find out what transmission's will hook up with it. Would love to get the 6-speed out of the 350z-G35 to hook up... still searching. Really just want the turbo sound back... haven't had it in awhile!!!

VQ30DET. The only turbocharged VQ Nissan made. The best of both worlds. 3.0L turbo V6 with 280hp stock and the G35/350Z 6spd transmission bolts right up to it. Plus, it's lighter than a KA.

350Z transmission don't work, different starter and bell housings. There is a company out there that makes an adapter kit for the NA Z32 transmission though.

i would keep the S13. it looks pretty clean in those pics.

personally you should just get a stock KA put back in the car and drive it and save money till you decide what you want and can do.

If it were me? Coilovers,5lug,Z32 brakes,LSD,new bushings. 2JZGTE swap. smallish single turbo GT3582R or maybe a GT37R. HKS cams, upgraded fuel (rail, injectors, pumps) etc. a solid 500whp with the car not even thinking about not being reliable.

I love the fact that you can get VH's for so cheap. I don't love the fact that the motor alone weighs over 500 lbs. But that's not really an issue to most ppl.

And since ppl are posting pics now...

Great weight distribution. Good displacement. Turbo power. 6spd transmission. What's not to like?

That is very clean, and I LOVE clean...First, thanx for everyone's input and ideas. keep em coming!!!

Well, I have cut the field a little... No KA's, out on the SR20, unless it is an awesome deal, or out of a 99' or newer. I like the RB series, and would love an RB30, but dear god that some dollar bills, YO... lol I have looked over for the guys with the 4.5L, or the LS1's and haven't really found a link telling us step by step how hard or easy the swap was. I have found ton's of youtube out there. OH, and I am all about doing something a little different!!! I have found a site that does the transmission templates, but they don't mention the 350z-G transmission... I did not even think about the VG30!!!?!?!?! has anyone done a 3.5L out of the Z swap???

OOOOHHHH, and FYI, found this the other night that the M45 transmission, and the Auto transmission out of the G-350z have the same model/serial numbers... 5 Speed A.T., RE5R50A...

VG30DETT single turbo conversion in a Zenki. Nice, but that motor wieghs like 600+ lbs...

Maxima VQ35DE in an s14... 330lbs motor.

S13 with supercharged 350Z motor

I guess I'm the only guy that wants a VQ30DET powered 240...

what about a 13b or 20b- they are light and are high reving-just wanted to input a different idea. well it counts what you want this car to be as in track, drift, or drag. i think you should just keep the project car because that chassis is very clean

YEAH, that's 12 pages of updates and props from everyone on racers second build, but not exactly what I was looking for... I wanted like the guts of the swap. Problems, solutions, answers, that kinda stuff....

Wow. Really? Other ppl have done this swap, but that one seemed like the most detailed and informative around. It was a swap all boiled down to the essential ingrediants. He even troubleshoots problems in the thread.

Anyways... you can view it as a primer and if you have additional questions, try our VH motor or Hybrid Swaps forum here on NICO.

Oh ok, I see. I was gonna say, if that thread is beyond anyone's grasp or understanding, then that person doesn't really need to be doing any swaps. The VH swap is alot of work, but GSRacer did a pretty good job of showing what you're in for if you go that route.

Anyways, good luck with whichever route you choose and try to post up a build thread for us to follow!

1. No2. KA3. LS4, I could care less about cost anyway but the work would be my major concern.

NO, I guess mostly for the body and year...

Um, like stated above, the 93' was given to me and if I got the 97', I could take the SR out of it, throw it in the 93' and add a little paint and body, have maybe at the most 2 grand in it and sell the 93'. Then get the motor I want, and put it in the 97'. Plus I would be able to get a loan on the 97' and then use that towards a motor when I sell the 93'.

I think I am leaning toward the 4.5L... Just really want a 6-speed to hook up to it... still checking it out...
