i'm am actually doing a writeup right now on how to do an oil cooler on the rb. should have it finished tomorrow. shoot me an email and i'll get you the pics

i ended up using the earls block adaptor and filter bracket. works perfect. you'll also need to get the rb stud adaptor from ricky at rawbrokerage. you'll also need an adaptor for the factory oil pressure sensor. then whatever cooler and lines you want to run. in my opinion no matter what i'd relocate the flter. makes changing the oil SO much easier and adds extra oil capacity in the lines

im using the greddy oil filter relocation piece that bolts on to the block that came with my clip, the using a mr gasket oil filter housing that accepts a hp-3001 filter and the largest b&m oil cooler summit had, also im using -12 an line and a jun pump. oil temps stay 20-35F cooler then coolant temps, VERY impressed on how well this set up works!

summit has a good relocation kit, and just plumb in the cooler to the lines. the kit was like $30 OR $40. thats the one i'm using, never any problems, it comes with different adapter threads so you can match everything up. and their cooler is ok too, plus, cheap, fast shipping and available!

You have to run some type of thermostat on the sandwich adapter. This is why most people use the Greddy adapter since it has a thermostat built into it. If the engine is run without one, it will have a hard time getting the oil up to operating temperature on cool days.

ahh, forgot about that part. it doesnt get really cold here in san antonio, so it wasnt a big issue when i wanted to get mine. but wont the stock oil-coolant cooler actually help warm the oil up after start-up since coolant heats quicker than oil? not at all trying to be like "ohh, i'm smarter cuz of this", cuz i'm not (anybody that doubts darius' sknowledge needs to be drawn and quartered) and that is only if you are still using the stock oil-coolant cooler. also, summit has thermostats too, granted just the universal ones, but hey, its cheap and should work.

I used this exact kit ( i took the pic )

I installed it quite a long time ago on an S13 with an RB25. Its quite awesome. Thermostatically controlled and the adapter and everything that comes with it is spot on. You have to be creative while running the lines. I ran mine right in between the radiator and fmic and saw a great decrease in oil temps while driving it hard.

HAHA I don't know about quartering someone but it could be cool to see depending on who it was.

To clarify, are you going to eliminate the stock oil cooler or leave it in place and run a sandwich adapter for the new oil cooler lines on top of it? I guess I was assuming that you would get rid of the stock unit to pull the heat from the oiling system off of the cooling system entirely.

If you are choosing to keep it, then you'll be fine with a thermostat-less adapter plate.

Don't know if I've done something wrong installing my oil cooler, BUT, I have it in between my FMIC and radiator. In fact its smack in the middle of the radiator and less then an inch in front of the radiator. I have noticed a slight increase in my coolant temperatures approximately ~5* hotter at all times (idle, cruising, etc). I feel its directly related to the placement of the cooler, so the end of this week im moving it to in front of my passenger side wheel and see if that helps.

Good call. That should help both the radiator AND the oil cooler.

I have a Derale thermostatic sandwich plate with a 8x11 B&M supercooler. I ordered a domestic thread adapter and welded it to the threaded washer behind the stock oil cooler. This way I could run a HUGE oil filter for large displacement engines. I think it was 3/4-16 thread.

My oil cooler is mounted right in front of the rad. It doesn't get any heat soak because my fans are on low all the time. You can even put your hand on the front of the rad at full operating temp. The pics of how I mounted my oil cooler are in the link below. zerothread?id=453880

bumping up an old thread instead of starting a new one. With the greddy oil cooler adapter kit with thermostat (http://www.240sxmotoring.com/groilcoadw.html), how many ports for gauges does it have? I want to install both oil pressure and oil temperature gauges. Also, if it bolts right into the block, just to confirm, all I need is that stud from raw brokerage?

Thanks,
Jeremy

that greddy adapter posted comes with 4 holes. 2 for oil lines and 2 for optional gauge senders. you can run it in 2 ways depending on how you want your lines to and gauges to be placed. one pair of holes is angled differently than the other pair. be careful about using the right pairs of holes or the oil won't flow correctly.

when you buy it, it comes with 4 adapters. 2 for -10 AN lines and 2 plugs. if you want to run your own gauges you need to buy 2 of the gauge adapters @ 12.95 a piece right below.

Thanks! Exactly what I was hoping to hear. Looks like I just need the stud from Raw Brokerage.

EDIT: What about gaskets (engine block to adapter)?

Thanks,
Jeremy

The GReddy adapter has a gasket on the block side. Just be sure to clean everything off the block before installation.
