  Q45 Shifter "static" noise

I searched . . . My 1997 Q45 w/44K miles, but is making a scratchy, buzz-like, static noise coming from the shifter. It comes and goes, but is there most of the time. Any thoughts?

I now think the "static" noise is coming from the area around the shifter console -- when I press down on the plastic simulated wood around the shifter, the noise goes away. Is this piece of interior finish held down with some kind of glue? Does anyone have an idea of how this area is assembled?

Many thanks! Is this something you've heard of before? I looked at the diagram you linked me to and I should be able to remove the trim, but not sure what I'm looking for. I could make it worse . . .

Closest thing I have found is this: http://forums.nicoclub.com/zer...s-bcm

There are more topics posted by him on removing the stuff needed to get to that control unit.
