Hey everyone, I have a 1997 Maxima GXE and I'm having trouble removing the rear brake rotors. I removed the pads and calipers with no problem. The rotors seemed to jammed in place. I removed the cap in the middle but that didn't seem to help either, it seems like the rotors are stuck in place somehow...is it just from the rust? or is there something I'm missing??? Please help!

thanks!!

If you have taken out the pads and caliper, then there is nothing else holding the rotor, except maybe rust as you mentioned that could have built up over time. You can use a plastic mallet to hammer out the rust around the lug bolts and maybe a good dose of WD-40. If still doesn't work, you may need a rotor extraction tool or improvise one.

A 5 lb sledge is the tool of choice on this job.

I had the same problem with the front rotors on my 95 SE when it was 10 years old and had 160K miles on it. I just kept spraying them with WD-40 while using a sledge hammer, and they eventually freed up from the 10 years of being rusted on.
