Hello and welcome to NICO.

There are a few steps that will guarantee you having a wonderful stay here @ NICO Land:

Your first thread has to be a welcome thread. Welcome threads are usually comprised of a little about you and a little about your car and it should have pictures of your car/s or women.Second thing is searching. Search Google, NICO or the rest of the internet, then read the material found on the above resources. If you couldn’t come up with the answers to your question then post about it in the CORRECT section of NICO.

Your issue is an engine related one, so you would have better success if you post here:

If it is a SR20DE - zeroforum/169

Or you could post it here if you are looking for a car specific answer -zeroforum/53

And if all else fails you can always go to Nissan Mechanic - zeroforum

What do you think he means....

Why would he just want to check if its there? checking if its bad, and checking if its working is the same thing.

Ok, and what are the issues? what makes you think the knock sensor could be bad? Is the check engine light on? Do you have a scanner? did you pull codes? Give us something to work with here.

To check the Knock sensor, you need to have a scanner or a way to retrieve the codes. If you have a knock sensor code then your engine computor detected a knock at some point and set the knock code. Knock sensor codes are 99% of the time a dummy code that should let the tech know that the engine had a knock at some point in time. It could be that you need spark plugs, could be that you got bad gas once. But in order for us to help you you need to tell us the problem.

unplug the check engine light.

OOOOR, you could actually check the knock sensor if you want to be an inside the box thinker.

First find the knock sensor. They are usually screwed into the side of the engine block. I wish I could tell you where yours is but you have an SR and a FWD, double fail.

When you find it start the engine and hook up a timing light. While watching your timing marks have a buddy, even someone you don't like, a passing whino, hooker, or alien lifeform tap on the block next to the senor with a wrench. You should see the timing marks retard when this is done. The knock sensor alerts the computer of, well, knock and the computer will roll back timing to alleviate that. If you get no adjustment in the timing when you recreate knock by banging on the block, something is wrong.

Knock sensors seem rather simple devices, though, I can't recall ever seeing one fail.

Look, you seem to be clueless. The only way anyone can help you right now is for someone to tell you to suck it up and take the car to a repair shop or dealer or otherwise. You havent given any symptoms for us to help you and it has been a shot in the dark here. Nor do I feel confident that if we found an answer, you wouldnt have a clue where to start fixing it. Take the car to a shop with a scanner. Have them clear the codes, and see if it comes back. If it comes back within a day or two, then you have an underlying problem causing the knock. If the light comes right back on, as if it was never cleared, then the knock sensor harness is damaged, or the sensor itself is physically damaged. This is obviously too big an issue for "you" to address personally, please refer to your local grease monkey...

Damn guy, a little tense aren't we?

He asked how to check his knock sensor, its pretty obvious he is trying to figure out if it works. You couldn't even come up with more then two questions he may be asking, and even then a thorough answer to one would contain the answer to another... And yet you post, questioning him when its pretty damn clear what he is looking for (notice, not a single other person has a problem understanding his intentions) just to give him s***.

If you are so concerned about being nicer to everyone you should help the guy instead of busting his balls for no reason...

The issue is, that you post some rude comment on here with no solution or even anything helpful. What you need to do is realize that this OP wasnt very clear and we needed clarification. For you to come at people with comments like you did, shows that you are here to start confrentation. Start confrentation with people that are physically there, that way you dont look like an interweb b**** startin ish.

I was not busting his balls, nor giving him s***, if you can comprehend what i wrote, it is clear. i merely asked him a couple questions and based on the responses he has given, they were valid questions....and really, take your own advice man.

i'm not the only one who feels this way about you on here, blacksrjdm and others but that's neither here nor there.

you said what you had to say, i said what i had to say, let's leave it at that and not get this thread locked, hopefully we can figure out what the problem is and find a way to help this guy out.
