First, I searched, but either I suck at searching or its not there. Im guessing I suck.

If its been covered before, links would be nice too.

(1990 240sx KA24E)

1. Whenever I try to take off from idle, the car will come really close to dying, or just die. Once it does die, it takes forever (1-2 minutes) of cranking to get it started, at which point i see lots of smoke coming out the back and have to keep giving it gas until it starts idling somewhat normal. This also happens sometime the very first time I try to start it after it has been sitting for a while. It is VERY easy to kill, I have to slip the clutch down from about a 2k rev to take off without it dying on me. Plugs are new, tried seafoam, cleaned the MAF and the IACV, nothing.

2. Speedometer does not work. Sometimes it will slooooowly creep up, all the way to 115, sometimes it will just sit at 0, sometimes it jump really fast from 0 to a random speed then back down. I assume this is just a speed sensor, but I just wanted to get an opinion before i order one.

3. Temp gauge doesn't move at all. Already tried replacing the cluster.

4. Losing about 1qt of oil a week, motor has a fresh rebuild with all new gaskets/rings. It leaks no oil, but spits some out. Give me the bad news...

All help is MUCH appreciated, thanks in advance!

Im no good with timing, but a good friend of mine checked it when I first got the car and said it was good. No idea

I'll have to check the fsm and try that.

Would leaky injectors cause any of this?

on the speedo....get another gauge from a junkyard or it might be the gear on the sensor or the sensor itself. I'm betting the gauge is just shot. Mine did the same thing...Temp gauge might just be a loose connection at the temp sensor..

Rings didnt seat properly most likely.

And are letting oil into combustion chamber, at which point the engine has trouble idling cuz of the poor octane fuel/oil/air mixture

As the engine heats up expansion causes less oil to leak into the combustion chamber and thus you get the more stabilized idle.

If the smoke is blue/grey then you know its oil leaking into the chamber.

Good luck
