I think mettler mentioned on here in the thread about if the 6 speed nissan box bolted up that only one model of Patrol box was a direct bolt on but it was a clunky box.

Your in Perth, why not get a plate off mayhem for a VG box?

I finished the conversion about 8 weeks ago using the Patrol Auto. It's a simple bolt up with a combination of VH parts. You can either use the VH box and swap the output shaft and bolt up the transfer or yopu can use the Patrol box and swap oil pump, input shaft and bell housing. If you are looking at Manual boxes then talk to Matt at Perth 4WD Centre in Welshpool. He has a GQ & GU shorty both running VH45 with the 5 speed.

What version patrol mate?I doubt we are talking about 2002 GU models here? Which is a shame because i would kill an ox with my bare hands to get rid of the sh*t ZD30 thats in there at the moment.

its going in a maverick, which is a re-badged GQ,think i might just keep it auto for now until i can afford adapter plate and rb gearbox.its being used for off road racing, does any one know how these gearboxes hold up?? will i have to fit a cooler to it?

Yeah would be good to know what model. My father has a ZD30 patrol and the engine is a pile of crap so definately considering a VH45DE swap for it.

I've been running the Patrol auto behind mine and with 280rwkw it has been put to the test and passed with flying colours. I have a big cooler and a Wholesale Automatics manual value body so it is basically a clutchless manual now anyway. Also when it was rebuild it was upgrade to VH45 spec which has more friction etc than a TD42 spec.

Just a question, does the Patrol come with a 5 speed auto? Want to manualise one for a 240Z project, wondering how hard to do this as opposed to the manual Z32 Convo?Cheers

Patrols have the same auto as 300zxtt and Q45 which is why they are so easy to convert! (sort of) So no they have a 4 speed.

Is this 6 speed box that supposedly bolts right up a manual gearbox / transmission or an automatic? We do not have the Patrol in the USA.

Well the model patrol it comes off comes in auto and manual and its not like the engine bolt pattern changes so the manual would bolt up as well. I've driven a GU series manual patrol and the box left a lot to be desired so I don't think its an option unless there is another gearset/internals that swap into the casing which I doubt not to mention the gear ratio's aren't exactly performance minded.

Hmm I'd be very interested to know more about this transmission. I wonder if it shares any commonality with the Z33 or Z32 or pathfinder or frontier gearbox? It would be wonderful if the shifting problem were just a function of a crappy shifter/linkage/clutch setup (which is very often the case) and if the design itself is the same as one of the transmissions above a simple internal swap would be cake for me.

The reason I ask as I worked in performance transmissions for 3.5 years, I can make any transmission shift like a dream unless it is just a fundamentally bad design.

Does anyone have any pictures of a Patrol 6 speed manual?

/frantically starts searching for more info on nissan patrol transmission (gearbox)

Not wanting to disappoint but, to date, the Patrol has never had a 6 speed box. They only have a 5 speed manual or 4 speed auto with lock up. The manual gearbox from the Patrols is very different in respect to bolt patterns and bell housing compatability and to use the the manual you would still require an adaptor plate. due to the massive weight of the Patrol box, and the messing around needed to bolt it up, you would be far better off putting the time/effort into a Z series box.

I misunderstood an earlier post and thought that post indicated that the Patrol had a 6 speed, my mistake.

The VH was offered in the Patrol, correct? But you're saying that the VH in the Patrol was only with the automatic, never with the manual, and that the bellhousing bolt patterns are not the same?

Oh well, I should have known nothing would come that easy with regards to the VH swap haha.
