Disclaimer: This lengthy thread is lengthy, but I also included pictures chronologically, to help tell the story of my car.
This thread is dedicated to my Coupe build. A little background:-I bought my 89 Coupe aka Teo, back in October of 2006 when I was a young naive, uninformed high school kid. Had I known all the trouble I'd go through in the next 3 years I would've kept driving my Dodge Neon, lol. I bought it off some guy for $940, and then faced maintenance issues from Hell. Intake Manifold, vacuum leaks, mysterious losses of power, mysterious regaining this lost power, chain rattle.
And then finally one day (Nov 2007) while I was "Drifting" in the rain I blew the headgasket, and thus the life of the SOHC ended. And so during this I faced my friends discouragement, my own failures as a car owner, and the distraction that comes from life. If I had $10 for every person/time someone told me to get rid of my car I'd be filthy rich.
Fast forward to Fall of last year. While browsing Craigslist I found a kid selling his wrecked 93 Hatch for $450. I drove and picked it up the next day for $400. A free tow later (thanks AAA) we were back at my house getting ready to tear this bish apart...unfortunately it took another 3 months before anything would progress (Winter time)It took me and my mechanic/friend a week to swap everything, but then when we went to start her up...she was running on two cylinders. So after a month of depression and troubleshooting (lol) I figured out that 2 fuel injectors weren't running. So I replaced them, only to then find out I have MASSIVE blow-by (As in when we dropped the oil pan it was 3 parts gas 1 part oil). As it turned out the injectors were stuck open and ruined the rings. So with that knowledge me and my mechanic (after a long talk about selling it) decided to rebuild it. We had the engine out and torn apart in half a day, ready to be cleaned and new parts put in.
Two weeks later we fired up and noticed the timing was off on the cams, so we went to adjust the cams...and. broke. the. exhaust cam. Unfortunately I was working out of town at the time, so finding cams turned out to be a tad bit difficult, especially since cash was a huge factor now. Fast forward to last weekend. We go to a pick n pull a couple of hours away and found some cams. Took them out, and headed home. 2 Hours later we fired it up and once again...the timing was off, this time on the distributor though. So after 30 minutes of adjusting SHE FIRES RIGHT UP, and she purrs like she never has.
-So after 3 years of trials, tribulation, blood, sweat, and tears I begin the break in period of my freshly rebuilt KA24DE...the journey of 500 Miles.
