i would continue to run what the dealer recommends which is a 5w30 synthetic but I would also install an external oilcooler and bypass the factory oilheater unless you live in a cold climate

after i put some milage on my swap I'll probably be running royal purpal or some sort of aditive.

Royal Purple is a great oil. I use it in my G35.

Seconded for running factory spec oil, you can choose brand etc yourself. From what i've read factory suggested oil rating is a combination of the oil with the best range for your climate and the oil most suited to the design of the engine and engine clearances. As some have found running a zero weight full synthetic in some older engines can be bad on the engine compared to running an oil appropriate to the design.

The Z has a oil heater in it? Is this just for cold starts or is it always heating the oil? Never heard of such a thing.

Mobil 1 is getting some serious bad press lately, something about analysis showing too much metal in the oil after just 3000 miles. I'd do a search on that..

Any links or supporting material on that claim? I cant seem to find anything. Everyone Says something different!! Go Amspoil!! I saw a study that said amsiol changed from a 5w-30 to a 15w40 after 14,000 miles! Not putting that in my car. The Mobil 1 in that test went to 18,000 miles without changing V levels, and the TBN was better also. Lots of variability in the test but the weight jumping by the amsoil is not cool!! The test was done in 2002 so I'm not sure if your claim that mobil is getting bad press lately is noteworthy or not.

Please provide some sources on where your getting that info! Its much appreciated. Anyone who has test results from blackstone labs or anyother lab would be greatly helpfull.

Thanks all.

Another interesting find on AMSoil. This test from blackstone states that the 5w-30 oil from AMSoil is a on the light side for a 5w-30. I'm getting more weary of AMSoil. Do they make thier oils lighter from the get go because they get heavier with use?

I just used Castrol Edge (5W-30) for my last oil change, previously only using Mobil 1. I noticed early last week that my pressure gauge was reading lower than normal and after checking the oil level I confirmed that the oil level had dropped. This was about 2700 miles into my normal 5K change cycle and had never had this happen before. I do have a RevUp VQ35 and though I've heard a few "RevUp engine burns oil" stories I never had an issue until using Castrol. I topped off with Mobil 1 and will do a full change and check back in when I've got some more information to share. I drive about 500 miles a week (95% + highway) and my engine currently has 67K miles on it.

I guess that's what I get for thinking with my dipstick.

Just got my Test Kit from BlackStone Labs. Im gonna do an oil change today and send in a sample for testing.

It would be cool if we got a few guys who use different oils to send in a sample every 1000 miles or so. We could put together a pretty good comparison over the course of 15,000 miles or so. See if there is actually a difference in oils.

My 07 Murano seems to like 5W/30 Pennzoil Platinum. I dumped the factory fill at 2910 miles and have used PP exclusively since then.

Here's a glimpse of my recent Used Oil Analysis (UOA) from Blackstone Labs.

After draining the Castrol Edge out and replacing it with Mobil 1 gold cap my engine is back to normal, pressure still reads about a half of a needles width below where I was used to seeing it, but nowhere near the drop I noticed after running Castrol Edge. No drop in oil volume either.

For the past 19.5 years and 323,600 miles my 90 Q45 engine has used an assortment of premium oils, in different viscosities based on time of year and temperature. Mobil1, Valvoline, Redline, Walmart........0-5-10w30-40-50

Regardless of the brand I've change oil and filter every 90 days* because the filter size is inadequate too allow longer service. Wasteful of synthetics but immaterial in the scheme of things.
95% of the 84 filter have been oem.

The point is to have the vehicle on a lift every 90 days to examine everything in detail and to plan the future next year work intervals.
So that you have plenty of time to obtain consumables: plugs, belts, bushings , bearings, liquids and filters.

* the shortest intervals were 6 weeks when I did some serious interstate mileages for 6 months doing 1000+ miles per week with Mobil 1 syn.

There's a great oil tech page. Shows most oil and viscocitys burning point ash levels etc. Just look in the 240 tech pages.

The best oil is the one which gets changed every 90 days along with our tiny filter primarily due to extremely low sump volume of oil.
Of course weekly checks to avoid low oil operation and adding any necessary can prolong engine life due to design to optimize power at the expense of oil consumption.

These engines are very different from Nissans prior to 2002, don't be fooled by old comments about older engines which are not optimal. Treating a 2002+ engine like people use to is a sure way to early failure!
