I used the search. If i ask a question on here were it requires me to type. I have exhausted all possiblities and am searching for a person who has done this personally. Please don't insult my intelligence.

qship has been a big part of this forum for years. He's not insulting your intelligence; he's giving you good information. Too many threads on the same subject heavily dilute the water and make it harder for future posters.

That doesn't seem that difficult to me...I have a y33, not a g50, but that's pretty clear.

I removed my alternator recently when doing my Knock sensors. The hardest part was getting the small receiver bracket for the long bolt to stay in place; I ended up using RTV to keep the bracket in place, and using a 12" extension to hold it in place while I threaded the bolt in by hand.

What specifically is holding you back? Have you started the project yet?

Never realized offering you the suggestion to use the search function to find the info you seek was a insult to your intelligence???? Fragile egos should be checked at the door before logging in. Did the search function not work for you????? Plenty of writeups, some with detailed pictures are there for those willing to expend the energy to look for them.

PS I just typed "alternator" into search box, clickrd on "q45 forum".....and turned up 45 separate threads overflowing with oodles of information on the subject! Good stuff here available free of charge for those willing to look!!!!!

Look Dude. Thats the service manual you've post'ed above. Thats no help. I watched my mechanic take the alternator off w/ out all the extra's the service manual requires. My mechanic is not reachable at this time. So I'm wondering if ANYONE on this board that has done this personally could help me out. I'm not new to this board, search engine's, or Q45's. If you can't help me please don't respond. I know there is a way you can remove the alternator w/out removing shrouds and fans, etc. If there is ANYBODY that has done this before please respond and help a fellow Q45 owner out. Thanx in advance.

I seriously doubt you have even searched because there have been at least 3 RECENT posts on this subject.

But try the service manual: http://Nicoclub.com/FSM

Spoon feeding not encouraged on this site, especially when it is requested with attitude larger than intelligence.....there are 45 threads on the subject.....you want an answer, search.....its all there for you if you want it.

If i type anything on this board.. I can't find it in the search. I have a service manual. I use all of these things before I ever start to ask a question here. I'm using the search as I type also. I read somewhere earlier where the guy was giving instructions on this alternator matter. I had to reboot and lost it.

Qship stay out of the post if you can't help. I wouldn't be here if I wasn't intelligent. It seems that all you can give me is "special Eddy" answers.

OK man....specifically, what is holding you up? Have you started the project? If you want specifics, let's talk specifics...what point are you at RIGHT now in the project?

Doing this job with no lift is hard. Do you have a lift? also, replacing an alternator on ANY car is kind of a no brainer! Assuming you have a decent mechanical ability. Honestly, I have redone most of my Q and have not looked at the fsm once. Search! Works for me.

5 minutes reading the information gathered from a quick search will inform you that unbolting the a/c compressor and moving it aside a few inches will allow you easy access to the alternator bolts from beneath the car..........the rest is simple wrench turning.

ok.. I get to the bottom bolt on the alternator and the bolt just wont release. it turns but won't release out of the hole. Then im pretty lost on what would be the next smart step. Should I be loosening the tensioner, removing brackets etc. removing the compressor w/ belts? I'm lost after the bottom bolt on the alternator is removed. The top bolt is easy, came right out.

Trump i have a 2ton jack i use. I was confused as to where to start on this job. I'm also pretty slick w/ a wrench, BUT IM NOT A MECHANIC. The 1st alternator that came w/ the car had a whining noise so i had my mechanic replace it. This alternator is not even a month old. Bought a new battery to go w/ my new alternator. Yesterday my wife drove to work and the car stopped on her a block away from her office. I figured it was the "Mobile power inverter" plugged in the back lighter for laptop use. So i told her to ""disconnect it and get security to give you a jump." Security's jump didn't take so i went and got the battery replaced w/ a brand new one. Today the car stalls on her way home from work a block away from the house. The diagnostic window Says "Low Battery Charge" I get the alternator tested and its bad. My mechanic is in the hospital. So i figure "i can change this alternator" w/ good comprehensive instructions from the BEST guys that know. YOU GUYZ!! ...It worked before...so it couldn't hurt to try again..lol

ok... i just found the post i was reading earlier and had to reboot. DoinKMobb wrote "My alternator pulley completely seized up and ate a belt the other day. Fortunately, I ordered a rebuilt OEM unit from ebay months ago. I heard horror stories about removing the alternator, so I was prepared for the worst. It actually wasn't that bad, but most of the time was spent wiggling the damn thing out and then back in.

All I did to extract the alternator was remove the battery and battery tray and take out all the bolts holding the bracket for the external transmission filter. I unbolted the alternator, pushed the transmission filter to the side and fished the alternator out. I looped a bungee cord into one of the bolt holes on the alternator to give me a little help in lifting it up and out - one hand rotating the unit and the other hand pulling straight up. I started to unbolt the AC compressor and the fan shroud, but realized I didn't need to. After I figured out what to do, it wasn't that bad.

Maybe the fact that I have small, feminine hands helped me manuever the alternator around. And I didn't undo any plastic clips or mangle anything in the process. It was kind of a pain getting the alternator back in the place though - when I tried to line up the holes for the long bolt on the right side, the alternator kept getting wedged in place. I eventually filed down the interior edge on the alternator to give me a 1-2 more mm's to work with.

But it's in, the connections are hooked up and all I need now is a new belt."

My question is has anybody besides this guy used this method? ..and were is the transmission filter?
