Hi All,

It's been a while since I posted and the Q has been running fine.Well, it has finally happened. In nine years of ownership the Q has never failed to start. Even this time it is not a true failed to start.

The car runs well. There is no CEL. After the car is driven and heated up and then shut off, about one time in five the car will fail to start. The engine turns over but doesn't fire. There is no gas smell and no sputter. Let the car sit for 45 minuets or so and it starts and runs fine.

My initial checks of the fuel pump and controller show them to be operating as expected.

Hard to troubleshoot when the problem is intermittent.

Any ideas?

Hot restart shouldn't wash the cylinder walls. Can you tell if the engine has compression?

I think it might be MAF related.. When I had MAF problems the car would fire and stall immediately... Have you tried pressing the gas pedal while trying to crank?

Hmmmm....

I would assume that "fails to start" means "the engine turns over but doesn't catch."

More information, Reggie.

Maxnix is correct. The engine sounds and feels the same as always, just doesn't fire.

I am beginning to suspect my testing of the fuel pump and controller was misleading.
