About two weeks ago i got my first car and before i got it home the clutch went bad about 2 minutes away from my house. It took about a week working like every other day on it to swap the clutch and cost about $530. At first my friends and me worked on it and we just couldn't get the transmission bolted back on so my dad hired this guy to do it and i helped him and he charged us $400. From the start there was some kind of electrical problem, but was not sure what it was at first. The problem first started when we were about to leave with the car to my house. The EGI fuse buzzed and would only start when we jumped it. So back to when we fixed the clutch we took it out for a spin (jumping it to start) then when we got back i think the engine was giving off engine smoke, the guy who my dad paid said it was normal. Then we found an oil leak, the guy said the front oil seal needed to be replaced. Then later on that night i had my friend come over and I wanted him to take it out for a spin, but when we jumped started it then took the cables off the car would die in about like a minute. Now this is when it would of been good for me to remember the EGI fuse was buzzing. So we just put the car back in the garage and slept on it. The next day my dad and me went to auto parts shop to get this extra alternator tested (it tested good) and to buy the front oil seal. Then the next day i replaced the alternator and we jumped my car and let it sit for a little while to charge up and took the cables off then later on died. Then a couple days later my friend comes over and we go out and buy a volt meter and he brought his car battery charger and we charged the battery and the dome light, left and right turn signals, and ash tray light blink on and off. The next day we try and start it, NOTHING. So we jump it and the EGI fuse buzzes but the car still didn't start, then we go out and buy another fuse, which fixed the car dying problem but the car still won't start. We then call the auto parts store and they tell us to try and push start it, which totally worked, but then we saw that the odometer does not work. Now i am stuck with a car that doesn't start by itself. Any ideas?

$1500

This egi thing you speak of isn't a fuse, it's a relay. If it's buzzing and you replaced it with a good one then your circuit is messed up going into it.

EGI relay controls the fuel pump, just a quick fact.

fuses blow and cease to work forevermore, relays buzz and click.

Ok I just read your actual post the whole way through. You probably have someone who messed with the egi relay. I had someone hotwire that relay on my old car for whatever dumb reason. The only thing I know is that the older heavythrottle write ups for SR or DE swap wiring may have told people to do this.

Just pull your fuse block apart man, I mean just the lower cover. Loosen the wires and unplug what you can so you can unbolt the fuse block from the chassis and flip it upside down. You will probably find something that looks like an obvious mickey mouse wire splice or new wiring in there to the EGI relay.

Put the relay back to stock because relays click when they work right, they buzz when they get power from 2 different feeds, hence why I assume its hotwired, and hence why your car runs then dies (has fuel pressure then has not etc).

Good luck w the wiring troubles, you don't have that many man just get down to the dirty and figure this relay circuit out!

edit, and yes hotwiring a relay will drain your battery in 1 to 2 days because the coil is getting power and generating the electromagnetic field and throwing the switch all night long because it's hotwired on!This will fix many problems.

Also, nice looking car. Clean chuki

Hm I wonder if I have the same problem? I have constant flow of power to my car even when the car is off.

Oh and you should give me your wheels.

maybe all that jump starting has caused you to get a faulty starter

how can a starter fix your odo issues... i think you have a 75 a fuse problem. i just blew mine and i had someone similar issues...zero electronics worked, engine wouldnt stay running without being being connected by jumper cables, etc.. btw your black relay should have been stock green... the egi and fuel pump relays are both green, yours has been replaced....unless im wrong..its happend once , maybe twice mine had a gay alarm system when i got it, i found the main ground behind the driver kick panel attached under the harness ground...remove the b**** and the problems go away. yours might be in a diff location but im sure they are all set up the same.

trying to help.

nice car btw, you paid a nice price despite its problems..looks hella clean.

lol epic edit... i just went over to visit the previous owners thread and your car isnt anywhere near clean as i thought... i think he was more interested in speakers and rolling back the odo and talking a lot of bs than being focused on ANY sort of direction. rb 20, sr20, on and on...i think the more you mess with this car the more problems you will find that have been covered up. i hope im wrong, but ive seen it in just about every car ive owned, except my first hatch when i was the third owner. its been in an accident, your hood is red underneath, couple other obvious things. good luck with the car tho, it will keep you busy, along with your wallet.

Hey I'm sorry I haven't seen your update. The s***ty aftermarket looking relay is probably the EGI one, but I forget. You should have taken a pic of the fuse block cover lol!

I don't know if it matters but your relays might not be the correct ones in the correct spots. let me get back to u on what colors go where.
