Hmmm. I just got my 06 M45 2 months ago and I believe I have this same issue. Its like a rattling or clunk sound every time you hit a bump. I can only hear it with the windows down but it is so annoying. Even the smallest bumps make set this rattling off. You know how they have those slow down strips like in neighborhoods or when you are coming up to a toll booth? It sounds like something is about to fall off. I thought it was the muffler or suspension and was actually going to make an appt today with the dealer. I'll give this fix a shot before calling the dealer.

Thanks

Tighten it actually made the noise completely go away. Your better of using a 10mm wrench unless you have a deep socket. Push the parking brake pedal one click so you can get access to the bolt and tighten a few turns. Test drive it over bumpy roads to see if its gone and if not keep tighten until it goes away.

Thanks for the help joerut!

This was actually an issue way back in late 2005. It happened on the M, some FX models, and even a few Pathfinders at Nissan. I remember it was the first complaint of its kind at our dealer and I drove it around to confirm... I lifted the car in the air and beat around with a hammer and heard the rattle when I smacked the tire. I took off the wheel, caliper and rotor, saw the Parking brake adjuster and lever very loose, and tightened it a little, and then on the parking brake pedal, there is also the 10mm size nut for the adjustment bolt. With a deep socket you should be able to tighten that as well.

That is very similar to mine. Mine is more of deep thud when I accelerate hard over a bump or uneven pavement. Mine is more like a hard metal on metal contact, almost as if the rear end and drive shafts have bottom out on the rear suspension.

Thanks for posting

I think I found the rattle.. It's on the left side on the trunk where the factory amp is and there's some other electronic stuff there on the side with bolts Mine weir all loose I could've of moved them with my hands and one of them was broken so I tighten them and now the rattle is gone. Did your car ever been rear ended? Or someone been messing with it back there?

Checked:
E-brake cable =it was tight
rear struts = they weir good
under the spare under the car tthat black box = it was tight
Removed rear seat & deck & seat belts & sub = it wasnt any of that everything was tight and
good
Everything under the car was tight

*tighten the bolts on the left side in the trunk near the factory amp and the amp bolts and so far the rattle is gone. :mike

Oh thank you. I have had this problem for 18 months. I'll log in to report if your fix worked. Another forum suggested the brakes: Pad Retainer was missing. :)

Yes, the rattle problem on the middle-back-left-under region of the M45 sedan was due to the e-brake adjuster being not tight enough. I placed 2x4 board behind the car and backed over it. The clank occurred. Then I engaged the e-brake to the lowest setting. The brake was loose and I could still drive. I backed over the board and no clank occurred. Then I adjusted tighter the 10mm bolt using a 10mm wrench but could only make 1/4 of a turn at a time because I didn't have a deep socket 10mm wrench. After 12 quarter turns (3 turns) I tested the clank, and continued for a total of 8 full turns There was a barely audible clank. At it's lowest setting the e-brake is much tighter now. MGCOOL thanks for the solution.

DUDE!! THANK YOU SOO f*** MUCH!! I made this account just to thank you lol.I had the same problem, loose cables, tighten the 10mm bolt with the pedal fully released and now the loud rattling is gone! I cant thank you enough!! i was going crazy!! Thought it was going to be an expensive suspension fix.
