Forum: Are we getting a good deal???

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

My brother and I are looking to to each trade in our 2001 QX4s in mint condition (46K and 55K miles on the vehicles and well equipped). We went to a dealer in CT and they gave us this deal:

We would trade in both '01 QX4s AND PAY $49,500 cashin exchange for 2 new 08 EX35s -- each wiith Prem, Lux Elite, Wood trim, Roof rails w/ crossbars, cargo cover, splash guards (NO NAV, NO TECH) plus free oil changes for life.

Basically, to arrive at the 49,500 cash payout to the dealer, they are giving us 20K for the QXs and are discounting the Ex 35s to $33,400 each. We are holding out for $47,000 plus both QXs (a $2500 savings from the $49,500 dealer wants), but dealer won't budge. I'm even wondering weather the $47,000 is too much ... especially considering the Dealer has BOTH CARS IN STOCK.

We were the only ones in the showroom, and dealer had 8 Exs on the lot (1/2 of which were fully opted out at $46K). It's also end of month.

What do you guys think? Seems to us that they should come down more, given that the value of the 08s will DROP LIKE A BRICK as soon as we drive them off the lot, given that they are not selling well and they are already old!

PLUS, get this: a NISSAN dealer is offering 2 fully loaded Murano LEs (NAV, vista sunroof -- which is two sunroofs for each seating row-- back-up camera, the works) for the EXACT SAME PRICE as the Infiniti dealer -- that is the 49,500 plus the QX4s on trade.

What do you guys think?? We're undecided. Is the Murano just as good as the EX35 and will iut hold up its value better? Are we asking too much from Infiniti dealer? We don't think so given it's a two car deal. Decisions, decisions ....

Thanks all.

When I test drove a Murano, it felt more like a truck or minivan, while the EX is more like a car.

Welcome to NICO, markinct!!

Because I'm from Canada, I can't comment on your US pricing (so I didn't vote).

I agree with sg77; however, as far as the Murano compared to the EX, if you believe they're comparable, then it sounds like you should go for the Murano deal.

You didn't say what year of Murano, but assuming '09, right there you have a key difference in terms of resale value (being one model year younger). Other differences you might consider (in no particular order):- Murano has more room in the back seat- Murano has power liftgate (option?)- Murano has CVT (I hate it, but many are fine with it)- Murano has different styling (again, I hate it, but many are fine with it)- Murano has a kick-A55 sunroof- Murano has less power

Buy it ... looks like a good deal. If the economy becomes better, the deal will look like a real bargain in retrospect.

Which deal are you referring to ...the EX orMurano?

The EX will hold it's value a little better, as it has the luxury car branding behind it.

What David mentioned is very true - that is a great deal on both cars, but you will get more from the Murano than you are for the EX. I, for one, love the CVT and think it's the best type of auto transmission there is. However, the EX does ride much lower to the ground than the Murano, but both are still lower than your QX4. I would test both of them out and see which seems to fit your style better - they are both highly regarded cars, and should give you years of enjoyment! You just have to decide which is more along what you are looking for.

EX and Murano is very comparable vehicle in pricing and leasing, I have quoted so many prices between those two they are very similar.

But to be truly honest, i would of chose Murano over an EX if i knew EX had this small rear leg room(I just ordered car looking at it online, not personal trip to dealer to find out in person), compared to EX, Murano feels more like a Luxury sedan.

In addition to the performance of the EX, the other big reason I chose it was the AVM (4 cameras instead of just the rearview camera), and other new technology like the Intelligent Cruise Control. If you're not getting the Tech package though you won't get any of that. Also, are the financing options the same at both dealers? (Infiniti had 0% for 72 months when I bought mine. But that couldn't be combined with the $5000 discount).

A CVT transmission and FWD handling bias aren't very luxurious to some. The EX will run circles around the Murano as it should. Two completely different cars built for different market segments.

The Murano is nowhere near the EX35. Ask Nissan engineers ... ask the experts. It's like saying a Toyota Corolla is the same as a Lexus GS300. Or the Volkswagen Passat is the same as an Audi A6.

Personally I don't think it is a good deal but it is only $0.02. I can give you what I pay for my EX as a reference, I bought my EX back in 10/2008 I pay $35,000 for mine and it come with everything except the sport package (the one include the bigger wheel and xeon headlights) which mean I have NAV and tech in my EX. As everyone know that every sale very, personally i think you can get a better deal especially with this economy.

PS: the dealer I bought my car from they closed down...
