Whoopsie, spun out. Redlined 2nd gear while doing a burn out. Crazy smoke.

Tires roasted fast, hahaha.

And.... I think I found out what are the limiting factors in drifting a Z32.1. Steering angle.2. The VLSD

The Z needs more steering angle to recover from deep angle drifts. I found myself having to enter a little bit more shallower just so I could hold it sideways with the amount of countersteering I can do.This however will be remedied soon.

The VLSD, although it still works and locks properly in my car, off throttle, it becomes tricky. Everything unloads and making transitions can be very difficult. With the weight of the Z, and a lot of sideways momentum, a transition can cause a pendulum effect with the VLSD not locking, swinging the car back past what you can hold it, and send you into a spin out, which it did to me several times, hahaha.

However, we quick steering inputs and corrections, and precise throttle control, you can get the transition down. I was able to get the hang of the transitions as the day progressed which made me happy.

Now I know what I need to make the car a bit more consistent. A clutch type differential, and more steering angle. Hope this help those wanting to drift a Z32.

BTW, the day didn't go on without some battle damage, lol.

I managed to hit a cone that was lying on its side with my side. I saw it coming, and I was already headed for it sideways. Oh well, just a minor ding on my door. No biggie. I still love my car. **** happens when you actually track a car :D

Overall, I think I'm getting the hang of this drifting deal, ahahah. Newbie competition next month. We'll see how that goes.

When and where is the competition at? I wouldn't mind coming and watching I would like to see your car before i leave school down here as well. Nothing wrong with adding a little character to the car as well when you actually drive it rather than stare at it in a garage.

Wow, sounds like you spent a hefty chunk of change there. Once mines road worthy I'd like to run a little lower, but I'm worried about clearance issues for daily driving, how much trouble do you have with like speed bumps and stuff?

I have polished frame rails, lol. I scrape here and there, but I've been running this low since I've had my old car, so that's about 4 years. It's all second nature.

And it's not like people are going to go under your car and be like "Hey, your car has scratches underneath." Lol. My car is far from perfect, but that's ok. I drive it everyday and have fun with it. I take it to the track. I enjoy it. :D

At the Balcony a Willow Springs International Raceway.

EDIT: Yay video! You can hear how awesome the Evolution exhaust sounds.Shots of my car are scattered throughout the intro, but the driving parts are at the 4:50 mark and 5:20 mark. Not long clips, but enjoy regardless.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AoggUPx6H5w

what is done to your car performance wise besides intake and exhaust...anything? you obviously feel that there is plenty of power there to drift it even with it being na...

Yup, that'd be me, hahaha.

Performance-wise? Apexi filter, gutted cats, RPS 6 puck clutch, RPS segmented flywheel, UR underdrive crank pulley, water pump overdrive pulley, and a Veilside Evolution exhaust. That's pretty much it. It has enough power to spin 245s consistently at about 40 psi and RE01 255s at about 50 psi. It has enough power to drift. It's just lacking in order departments, which I will be taking care of shortly.

Hahaha, I'm sorry but this isn't a trouble shooting thread. And even then, I'm not too savy engine wise with twin turbo motors. Suspension, brakes, and wheels, I can help you. Engine wise, not so much. But what I would imagine is that the oil pressure sending unit, a part that normally gets screwy, is acting up.

Man u have to work for a tire shop. I always see u with new wheels and tires. On top of that wheels aren't cheep, one reason i dont go drifting. Just dropped $603 on 2 rear tires a couple weeks ago.

Do u have pics of ur front wheels on the car when u went drifting. They look clean.

Since you are good with suspension, I have had my eyes on this set up for a while. http://www.ajusa.com/details/i...turbo What do you think? I will not be doing any extreme stuff but still want a good ride. Also, what else (suspension wise) do I need to change with this?

That should work. It's been a proven and reliable set up on several Zs on the board. Good ride, nothing too harsh or crazy.

I dont think that the VLSD hurts it since its the same as in some of the 240s and its quite coveted in there world

i'll see you at 626 man! seeing as my car is still down i wont get to participate but it'll be good to see someone representing the z32. couple questions for you though seeing as i've been having the same problems. i was wondering how we can remedy that steering lock problem? i know powered by max has the max angle ext. for the s chassis but i dont know anyone that makes something like that for the z. but is adjustable tension rods the only thing you can do tho give yourself extra angle? oh and just curious how wide are the rpf1's you have in the back? i've been sliding on my 9.5's for a while but i was wondering how wider wheels would feel because its hard enough as it is not to gain traction with the 9.5's but a buddy of mine has some advan sav2's in 10 rear and 9.5 front that he's willing to sell me in payments, and i was gonna buy them, but i want to see if anyone has slid on 10's in a z and if so how much more difficult is it?
