Hi, I have 06 M45 sport.Today, I started my car after 5 days of sitting outside in cold temperature(it's been pretty cold here in so cal due to rain/snow).As soon as it started, I heard this loud noise that I never heard before. It sounded like it was coming from the belt in the front.I let it run for a little bit, and it went back to normal idle sound. The noise was pretty loud and it got me worried. Drove about 80miles after and everything felt normal.I'm wondering if it's normal to sound like that when it was sitting in a cold weather for a few days.Anybody else experienced this problem or know of it, please advice. Thank you in advance

I had this happen one time (3 or more months ago), similar situation, car was outside in the cold, park on an incline (>20 degrees, front up) and had not been run for 4 days. However, my wife said she moved it a very short distance and cut it off...

The car sounded really rough almost like a lifter was stuck (is the sound I will compare it to), by the time I got to the dealer (about 10 miles away) the sound (and rough running) had disappeared.

It has never happened again, and the dealer is polite enough to ask about it on my follow-up visits for oil change, etc...

So I have since attributed either to a combination of the short run when the car was moved + the sit and angle, or bad gas. The latter theory (bad gas) was from the service manager's comments.

Hope this helps...

I assume everyone is using 91oct or better fuel?Hey, you never know.Try and not run tank lower than 1/8 tank to keep fuel pick-up from collecting excessive contaminants sitting in the bottom of the gas tank.

Given the lower ambient temperature and the storage period some lifter noise is not uncommon with the M45. The hydraulic lifters tend to bleed down a little and when the oil reaches the higher end of its viscosity rating noise or a slight vibration at idle may not be uncommon. Further attention may be reqiured if the noise persists once closed loop is achieved.

This is not something that is unique to Infinitis the lady that lives next to me has an 05ish E500 that does the same thing after sitting for a week in the cold. The smoke pretty bad too on a cold startup.

mine 06 m45 does the same thing, the dealership told me it was the lifters and that some times theses cars in the cold take a while for the oil to lubricate everything or something like that..50k car that u cant start in the cold almost made me want to sell it but its getting better since i switched to amsoil.

Sorry for bringing this thread back, but can anyone who has had this problem view this video of my car starting and tell me if this is what happened to you?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VnoAC9F538I am worried about running it for a few minutes because of the burning rubber/plastic smell, but if this fixes it, I will do it.

I have the EXACT same sound upon start up....if:

It's been 3 days or so since it was crankedOr it's super cold out and it's been more than 2 days Or the oil level is low and it's been a day since it was cranked.

In all cases, I just shut it back down and crank it over a couple of times, but not letting it fire in effort to get the oil pressure up, and what little noise remains goes away in the following 10 seconds or so.

(73K miles, 5/30 Mobil 1, oci at 3000)

It bothers me that it does it, ever...but after 70k miles, if it was going to throw a rod, drop a valve or otherwise mecahnically fail due to oil starvation, I figure it would have done it already.

Well, you are in a better situation than me. My car stopped starting and just cranks. I had it towed to the dealership (for $175) and they should get back to me today on the cause of the problem. Hopefully the repairs will be covered under the powertrain warranty or the 3rd party extended warranty I bought.

Since when did Infiniti start offering diesel engines?????I would have thought they could have designed it to be quieter!!

Good luck with that man!
