Hey, I would like to remove my EGR valve assembly. My question is how do I figure out what rating resistor I need to fool my computer?

thanks

the egr is monitered by a temp sensor in most cases and is variable so a specific size resistor will not stop that portion of egr codes from poping up. but if you were lucky enough to not have a egr temp sensor. you have a 20 ohm solonoid which runs egr and evap purge. as long as that relay is hooked up the ecm would never see any difference in voltage drop when activated. you would really want to leave it hooked up along with evap compomonents. Reason being is when the computor activates that relay it assumes that evap is being purged into the intake. Its logic says since it is receiving evap vapor it needs to lean the mixture abit to compensate for the fuel vapors from the canister which will burn in combustion. Before ripping components off your car ,cause it is the in thing to do, consider the logical operation of the components and how they effect fuel mixture so you dont have drivability issues. If you are going to do these kinda mods to your stock engine then you are going to need to compensate by doing chip mods to the ecm so the altered engine will perform to your expectations. And not lose performance.

Just do what I did...

Take off the metal EGR tube (runs for exhaust manifold to EGR). Cut it about 3" from both ends. Bo to Pepe Boys, Autozone, whatever and buy two rubber caps (3/4" I believe) and a couple clamps. Cap and clamp the ends of the tube (those 3" sections) and install tube(s). No need for ECU bypass.

great, thanks alot for the reply. Im just trying to figure out why my car runs poorly. I was planning on dissabling the egr system so maybe i could rule out its malfunction. I didnt want the check engine light to come on because my car would then enter limp mode and that would give me no information. I ran a bunch of tests from ALL DATA on the egr system, if anyone knows what that program is, but they were kinda inconclusive.

thanks

all data info is directly from factory service manuals. but it is the cliff notes version of the info so certian things can be left out. egr codes will not put the vehicle in limp in mode. their is only a couple things that can do that. one is airflow failure and not partial complete failure. and crankangle signal from dist.

So what happens if you just leave the EGR valve hose, off of the intake, and plug the intake hole where the hose was removed?
