I'm just adding to Datte's post about MA sucking out loud. Here is some fresh evidence.

in addition to a couple other spots that I found and didn't take pics of. Most of this moisture is coming from above, but that is always littered with salt when it snowed out in New England.

I sourced where the leak was coming from, and sealed it up tighter than a tick's ***.The water flowed down that channel, and then goes behind that plastic shroud. It then runs along the brake light housing and is supposed to flow alongside a gasket. This gasket was old and cracked, and allowing water to drip past it, some entering the tail light, some dripping down and eventually making it into the spare tire well.I used some of this:And re-sealed the gasket area to prevent any water from getting past it.

I also drilled 2 holes in the bottom of the tail light just in case, and also punched a hole in the rust in the spare tire well. Basically all the metal was gone in one point, and the only thing holding water IN was rubberized undercoating.

I'll probably do something about the large hole in the near future. Its a little TOO big, maybe an animal or something could get in. God knows I have plenty of rust repair experience with the 240.

That does suck. You should get some POR-15 for your cancer problems.

Por-15 doesn't do **** when there is 0 metal to paint it onto. I'll probably weld a patch in there, or lay down some fiberglass. More likely weld, cos I have the metal and welder, but no fiberglass.

I meant the little areas my friend. Welding would be a good idea.

All of which has been repaired. Welders are good investments.

So I let that crap dry out for a while, then went at it. I first scrounged around my house to see if I could find a piece of metal that was roughly the size I needed. I scored. I then bent it somewhat to conform to the lines of the trunk. After that, I sanded down the spots where I'd be welding it, and tacked it in place. I then realized that I was welding galvanized steel, and sanded off all the galvanization from the heat affected areas. I then welded it the rest of the way in place, and decided to hit it all with a wire brush before painting it. After knocking loose more loose rust (from other areas), I sucked it up with a vacuum and got to painting. Some "2 year warranty against rust" crap I picked up at wally world for $2. Anything is better than what is on there. I then let it dry for a day, and put all my crap back in my trunk.

Still left a little hole down there, just so it can drain in the future if it ever has to.
