Anyone see this story?

http://politicalticker.blogs.c...song/

Now, I don't care if this offends anyone or not, that's not my question or the point of this thread. I am anything but a political correctness crusader, as I love to offend people and I believe that anyone who is offended by anything is probably a nancy.

What I'm asking is.....was this a good idea, politically?

Does it look good for a RNC chair candidate to be distributing this song on his holiday CD?

I think it was unbelievably stupid and I think it'll cost the GOP some goodwill, not just this guy.....assuming they have any left to spend.

Thoughts?

I find it hilarious...why? Because this is a glaring example of why the Dems will retain office and congressional control for the next 12 years...or so. It may not piss everyone off, but it aggrivates ALOT of mofo's. These same people are weak politically correct wussies...but they are also the majority these days. Everything is scrutinzied to the max...making any statement that can be remotely takin as racial is simply stupid. Especially involving the first Black POTUS.

Way to go GOP

Saw a story about the song on CNN this morning but hadnt heard it til I found that link.

I didnt find much humor in it. Seems like something immature middle schoolers would create and be entertained by. But as Brian and Chris have said, it simply isnt the best move for the GOP or an RNC chairman candidate. There are plenty of bitter people (both voters and GOP insiders) that will be entertained by this. IMO its counter-productive to the goal of re-establishing the party. Maybe they feel left out of the political scene and this is simply a ploy to garner some attention and press. Regardless, I think this displays poor taste. I am not surprised however.

At least, the lyrics are only half incorrect, as compared to myths like 'Barack is a Muslim' and 'Barack doesnt know the words to the national anthem' (though these rumors may be traced to Hillary's campaign, not the GOP)...

The song is based upon this LA Times headline:

Haven't listened to it or read anything about it, but my knee-jerk reaction is: Tacky.

I hate PC as much as anyone, but to be classless and juvenile is pretty retarded.

I have "a grip", thanks.

I'm not saying I'm offended by it, I enjoy racial humor more than just about anyone who walks the earth.

I'm just saying that it doesn't look good for the GOP. Not everyone has as much of a sense of humor as I do. I know it's all in jest and it's actually kind of funny, but that doesn't mean it was a good idea for someone as high-profile as an RNC chair candidate.

I'm just pointing out that it is a poor political move, nothing more. You don't disagree? You don't think that maybe, just maybe, this wasn't the smartest career move for this guy?

The GOP *cannot* appear to be reacting to their loss with bitterness, it further hurts their already damaged brand. Limbaugh has said that the cure for the recent defeats is to move farther right and become more reactionary, but I don't see the logic in this. If they ever hope to hold national sway again, they need to become more inclusive, not exclusive. There aren't enough far-right voters in the US to establish a majority now or ever. The US is, I still believe, a CENTER-right nation, but the key to that, as we saw in November, is the center. The GOP lost the center and unless they get them back, they will never regain national viability.

I wish...

Today's GOP could learn from Newt's GOP.

Except the GOP fielded an extremely centrist canidate this time around and THAT went well. Run somebody who when he talks about skipping a debate to work on a bailout bill KILLS the bailout bill. John McCain is a populist with a little R next to his name.

Well, McCain would normally have done much better than he did. The whole economic tsunami thing really screwed his chances, and then the unpopular GOP incumbent, Sarah Palin alienated centrist voters, Steve Schmidt ran a crappy campaign, and he was running against a history-making candidate. It all added up to a loss.

In general, a centrist Republican is going to do a lot better than an extremist, just as it also happens on the Democratic side. Extremists don't get broad based support.

In short, the GOP needs to appeal to secular, coastal-dwelling, fiscally conservative socially moderate voters. They can't just hang on to the same "red state core" year after year and expect to win elections.

A Pro-Choice fiscal conservative with national experience would slam it home, but the religious right will never allow the GOP to field a pro-choice candidate.

^ agreed. Borack is basically a moderate pragmatists, his goal is to solve problems and be realistic.

Our countries biggest obstacle is that we are lured into polarized groups. partisanship is rampant, to the point of being disillusioning.

mix with that with a tint of racism and sexual insecurity and you have quotes like the one we just read.
