Rear Brake Pads System Malfunction?

For a couple of months now, my when I drive, the "BRAKE" light comes on (implying my hand-brake is activated), my "VDC OFF" light comes on, and also the "SLIP" light all come on at the same time everytime I drive. I did a search and found these threads: zerothread/315062http://forums.nicoclub ... ead/277728

but they could not solve the issue. So I know we have more geniuses on the M-side of the forum who can come up with a good answer. I told my dealer over the phone, and he immediately said "You have to change your rear brake pads...thats why the light comes on. When you change it, the light will turn off. We can replace it, and machine the rotors for $320"

What do you guys think about all this?

I had the same problem with my STS, the brake light in the dash would come on when the pads needed to be changed. The pads have a sensor on a wire attached to them that monitor the depth of the pad.

I checked it before I posted, but I didn't see it mention anything about the VDC off and SLIP light come on as well. Just mentioned the Hand-brake light (from what I remember)

The dealer is right. Your pad low level indicator has triggered a message that calls for replacement.

Depending on the thickness of your OEM rotors, you might want to replace them along with the pads.

$320 seems a little high, since you can get aftermarket parts for around half and have them put on at Car-x or Midas or even at the dealer. Or you can do it yourself.

thanks tam...I think OEM is better than the aftermarket pads. But isn't it too early to change rotors at barely 25K miles? I don't drive that crazy either. Just basic city driving in So Cal.

I don't suspect that your rotors are due for replacement, but since the cost of resurfacing is not that different than what they cost new from a discount reseller (everythinginfiniti.com), it might be a good time to do it. I just like to start fresh

For some reason the M's tend to eat rear brakes sooner than the fronts. Not sure why, and if the RWD and VDC have anything to do with it, but a lot of these cars require rear pads around 25k miles.

Too be honest, quality aftermarket performance pads, such as Hawks, EBC, or Ferodo (to name a few) are typically a lot better (more durable, and better performing) than OEM parts. But if you don't do any spirited driving (or track driving) you should be fine with the stockers.

Well I changed the rear pads last week with OEM ones. But the total came out to $180 installed at my mechanic which I think is a bit too much ey? Oh and all the lights turned off

I have 06 M45This morning, all the lights mentioned above(slip, VDC, brake) came on.I engaged the brake and released, and the brake light went off for a few sec. Then it came back on.I'll go ahead and get the rear brake pads checked too.Since this thread has been here for awhile, anybody found any issues other than the rear pads?

Just replace rear pads, and check brake fluid level...replace if necessary (I flushed and replaced mine)
