I ama senior mechanical engineering major, who will be pursuing graduate studies soon, and I have yet to find an automotive company who will hire me for an internship. My GPA is good, and I have a great deal of hands-on experience with the Baja SAE competition, as well a self car repairs.

In the past two years, I was turned down by Ford, GM and Chrysler a number of times, and I just don't seem to understand who these companies hire.

I've worked for a power company in New York, large aerospace company located on the west coast, and recieved an offer at a company who does a number of things including hybrid locomotives and jet engines. If I recieved an automotive internship offer, I would turn down all others in a heart-beart.

Who did you work for, and how did you find your internship?

You'll have a hard time getting an internship with the big 3 now since their recent financial trouble.

I never worked for an automaker, but a friend went to work for honda R&D in the NVH department. I'm pretty sure he had to apply on their website like a regular person because honda doesn't come to our career fairs.

we do have a lot of co-ops working at toyota manufacturing plants. these opportunities come from the career fair since they come every semester.

I would guess that the big 3 get a lot of interns from local schools such as Kettering University. (which used to be the primary source for GM engineers)

what school do you go to?

I don't really plan to work full-time at the big three, but an internship would be nice.

I'm really shooting for Honda this summer.

I go to Stony Brook University in New York.
