Here is where you all lose any small tinges of respect, that you may have had, for me:
1) First motor vehicle experience. Was on my grand father's farm and he insisted that I take the small bundle of hay in the golf car even though it was only a short walk to the bull/horse...etc. I ended up running into his chain link fence and killing the hinges. The hinges came out of my "pay"...
2) Dodge Stratus 2.4L rental car provided by guilty party's insurance who creamed my I30. At the time I was really interested in learning how to drift so a friend of mine gave me a quick straight-line-drift 101. He didn't, however, mention that I should attempt it at low speeds.
So I'm with another friend on a straight, open, low traffic road and I try doing a hand-brake drift at 60 mph. The car did a 630 (1.75 turns) and almost crashed into an embankment. The problem was that I was going to fast, I pulled the e-brake too hard AND left it locked, then I proceeded to slam on the brakes when we started spinning.
I scared the **** out of my "dare devil" friend in the passenger seat.
3) Taking a small radius freeway exit with a recommended speed limit of 25 at 85-90.
I was sleep deprived (10 hrs over 3 days), over caffinated, and STUPID. I had taken this turn at 60-65 on numerous occasions without any problem, but adding another 20-30 mph wasn't good. Couple that with the fact that some IDIOT pulled gravel from the shoulder into the off-ramp, and my lovely Tokico HP rear strut blew made for a most unpleasant experience.
We (me, "dare devil", and a chick) started sliding sideways. I hit my brakes, which made us turn even more sideways. I swerved to miss the "25 MPH" sign, and ended up grazing a chain link fence instead.
Later that night, on the way to see my gf, I guess the continued lack of sleep and some stupid masking tape, that the body shop left over my license plate light, got me pulled over. The police asked me if I was drunk or on drugs because of my driving. Then they saw the damage to the front of my car and asked me about it. I was too tired to lie straight, so I told them. They ended up holding me there until a deputy 50 miles away checked the scene of the accident and confirmed the damages (bent pole). I ended up with a point on my record for reckless driving, but no ticket.
This was about 2 months after I had my whole car repainted.
