at this point, i dont really see the point in investing anything into the 94 ECUs... the early ECUs work fine on the late cars and theres really not much of a demand for it.

please clarify "work fine" I was under the impression that it has all the same functions as the 94-95 ecus. Are there any functions that are given up in the swap of older ecus?

Ive gone over the differences before, if you'd like to search you can... in short, these ECU's are not designed for cars that are anything less than perfect mechanically, and have had no issues with cars that fall under that category..

The only function that has been given up is control over the auxillary fan. however, for 99% of people this is a non issue because on the 94 ECUs the fan is programmed to come on at like 230F (way overheated anyway, the number escapes me right now) with the AC off, and way sooner with the AC on...

In short, if your car is running as it should, the aux fan will NEVER kick on because your car will never get hot, and even then if its that hot outside you probably have your AC running anyway in which case the AC system will kick the fan on WAY before the car starts running that hot!

if you'd like more details please search... But let me EMPHASIZE THAT I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS UPGRADE IF I HADN'T DONE ALL THE PRIOR TESTING AND RUN THIS SETUP ON MY CAR MYSELF.

I am not in this to make money, i let the product sell itself.. You can either buy one from me (superior product) or get one from JWT for about 3x the money (inferior product). Again if you want more informaiton I have gone into PLENTY of detail on the forum!

Wes,
Do you have any of the ECUs left?
Did you ever get a 94 with TCS to work?
Let me know.
Thanks.

Wes is'nt focused on 1994 Q45 ECU's as much now because 1990-1993 Q45 ECU's will work fine. You though are limited to 1991-1993 Q45 ECU's and you need one with traction control.

He can do them with the TCS? I would like to keep it for when it snows.
Mine is a California model. Does that change anything?

Of course just send you ECU in (Assuming you have a spare or don't mind waiting 2 weeks MAX) and he will program it for you.

He can do 1 stock and one Mad Max program if you want for you.

And California or Federal model ECU doesn't matter at all, All he really does is change the Maps and there by remove some of the preset safety's from the factory.

As long as your car is in great shape (meaning all the maintance Items are and will continue to be taken care of) and you use ONLY 93 octane gas you will be OK.

See here for more info: http://www.q45.org/vhpower/parts.shtml

If you install a regular ECU in for a California car, will the check engine light always be on?
What is added to the Cali cars that the normal cars don't have?

Do you think I would settle for having a CEL on or anything less than perfect? The answer is no.

There really isnt any appreciable difference in the california model, some minor stuff but nothing worth making any big deal about. You can put my ECU directly into a california car with no problems at all, no CEL's, no funny business... I program all my with the standard federal software and since therse only extra stuff on the california model, the ECU just ignores the other garbage. on the 90-93s theres a little more differences but again, nothing major... The only difference on a 94 cali model to my knowledge is there is a coolant sensor in the valley on the Y shaped cooling line that splits off to the heads.. I dont know what it does or what its impact on anything is, but i assure you it wont matter.

Again, let me clarify. My ECU applies to 90-95 Q45s however you must get a 90-93 ECU (since I cannot program the later 16 bit ECU) with or without TCS.

To Wes's knoledge the aux fan/condenser fan comes on at 205* F and on the 1993's there is an actual temprature sensor that controls the fan and it may come on sooner or later.

And the TCS system acually has another temprature sensor on the Y shaped alluminum pipe, Besides the acuall collant temp sensor that gives to temp to the gauge on the insrument cluster.

And the Fedral ECU will ignore the EGR temprature sensor, which should be fine, But if you think other wise you can always switch the ECU to the stock program.

I in now way meant to offend you. I appologize if that is the way it came across. I only wanted to get all the information.
I will try and locate an ECU to send your way.

Thanks!

I am not in a huge hurry. I am not getting another engine till next weekend and then need to find time to put it in. Then I will need the ECU after I get everything put together.
What should I do to the engine while it is out besides replace the knock sensors and spark plugs?
I never heard back on the aftermarket cams. Has anyone used these with success? Do you have to change valve springs?

KS, do the gas lines that lead to the injector rails, redo the Y shaped coolant hoses right above the ks. Make sure the injectors (3-6) that go under the plenum are purple headed or new. Only put one screw in injector #7's cover, so that you can remove it w/o plenum removal. (you will see what I am talking about) Get the plenum gaskets for each runner, unless you like to smell funk and not know where its coming from.

Other than that, leave it alone....

I've been running 91 octane from QT as per Q45 tech with no probs at all. I like to go to the QT in town that is the busiest, I get real fresh gas there. I also use bg44k and ISO heet occasionally.
