Yes they are supposed to be stand alone units for universal applications. I had to measure the diameter of the hole in the factory fogs and search for fogs to fit, universal ones just happened to be perfect. The beam mixes in with my headlights and gives everything a good color and illumination, no noticeable scattering of light.goody94q45 wrote:Great mod. It seems too easy, like they were made for each other. Are the projector fogs you put in a stand alone universal unit or from another car? How do they work at night? Illuminate straight ahead or to the side?
atm I do not have HID in the fogs but the point in buying all metal and glass was so I could in the future. As you can see in the pix, the factory lens doesn't have too many diffusers and seems to have very little effect since the projector lens is pretty much right up to it and the light has little room to scatter. I'll cover the headlights and take pics tonight.maxnix wrote:Projector (HID?) with a fog lamp lens over it? Would be interesting to see the resultant pattern.
I modified by forlight brackets and replaced my foglights with Sylvania X1010 HID low beam auxiliary, which are no longer currently available. Nice, but most would probably not bother for the expense. I'll post some time if Wes can host the pictures.
Nice job. Show us the pattern.
Please do post pictures Brian. I am interested in the addition of aux low beam headlamps to replace the fogs, which to me would be more usable. The factory fogs are more cosmetic than functional.maxnix wrote:Projector (HID?) with a fog lamp lens over it? High quality thick glass, no way to get the small ridges out...Q451990 wrote:Is the fog light lens glass or plastic? If it's plastic it should be possible to sand the optics off and then polish the plastic with higher and higher grit sand paper, finishing with a plastic polish...
Heath
And he already has HID low beams.lasoyafan wrote:I doubt you can fit bmw lights in a Y33
Can't remember if I already did some ball busting on this - but if notTBrack wrote:seeing as my Q is now a tiny block of metal thanks to our government and "cash for clunkers".
No I took the fog lights out not the headlights. I had the headlights and fenders for sale for a couple days but since no one acted, they had to go with the car. Here is a link to the thread about the headlights.1QIKQ45 wrote:Did you say you had the headlights laying around? Cuz those are sexy!i would love to get ahold or a set, unliss you had a write up of how you did them... i do have a spare set of headlights....hmm, maby time to have a bit of alcohol and jump on ebay!haha
now tell me again that drinkin is badTBrack wrote:This idea for projector fog lights came from too much alcohol and impulse ebaying. I figured since I have projector headlights, the fogs looked out of place. So came the idea, which I pursued and accomplished.
I started off by removing the fog lights to see what I'm working with.
Then I removed the glass cover and see that the cheap foil inside the lights is pealing <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.nicoclub.com/forums/image ... es/wtf.gif" BORDER="0">
Then I got a hammer and beat out the housing from the socket. Just my luck I got a perfect sized hole <IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://images.nicoclub.com/forums/image ... huckle.gif" BORDER="0">
Heres the all metal and glass projector fog light. ($50 on ebay)
Projector mounted into the assembly...
Glass cleaned and polished and placed back on the assembly.
Rinse and repeat...
Hope you enjoy!
