2008 Infiniti EX35 Bluetooth prefixes phone numbers with 011

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Whenever I try to dial a number from the incoming call log, the bluetooth interface prefixes the number with 011. For example, someone called me from the number 416-123-4567. This number is logged as +14161234567. When I try to return the call using my car's bluetooth, my cell phone shows 01114161234567, and the cell operator doesn't let it through.Apparently, the bluetooth interface recognizes the numbers as international calls and tries to provide the service of dialing the international access code 011, but all calls are local! I tried 3 different phones, but got the same result.Infiniti Canada is useless, and offer a regular excuse of 'your phones are not compatible'.

Does anyone have any idea as to how to turn off this annoying feature? Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the forum, infobloke!

I don't have the solution for you, but perhaps I can add a little to the discussion ...

I'm in Ottawa on the Rogers network and have the same issue with my Motorola SLVR L7. Are you also on Rogers, or not?

Based on my experimentation, it looks like the problem is with the "+" symbol that precedes the saved number. For example, if I copy an incoming call entry to a phonebook slot then call it, it's mistaken as an "international call". But, if I then edit this by removing the "+", the phonebook entry becomes functional and the call goes through.

Even without the EX involved, my phone logs incoming calls in the format "+14161234567", so I'm not surprised to find numbers showing up that way within the EX call log.

The questions are:1. Are we certain the EX's phone interface is translating the "+" to "011"?2. If so, how do we stop that?3. If we are unable to stop that, is there a way to stop the phone from logging numbers in that format?4. If the EX is NOT translating the "+" to "011", is the problem due to the phone or the network? (Edit: On this last point, I'm quite certain now that the EX is translating "+" to "011".)

Any further info from anyone, greatly appreciated.

Cheers,David

It's been some time since I read my owners manual, but I remember that there was something that had to be done to get the BT to recognize international calls. Could it be that whatever that option was is set to international on your phone when in fact, it shouldn't be? Of course, this is a big guess on my part.

Thanks for the suggestion Bob, but this isn't exactly applicable. (During voice dialing if you say "international" before the number, the system doesn't restrict the number to 3-3-4 format.)

I've pored over the manual and there's no mention of a configuration setting that would affect translation (or not) of a "+" to the "011" used for international calls in North America.

Odd situation....certianly seems odd considering North America all has the same international dialing code, and the addition of it into the phone/bluetooth system seems somewhat unecessary.

This would seem like a phone issue to me - or network to say the least. The bluetooth system will not automatically assign (or should not) an international dialing code without the host device telling it do so - the bluetooth system is only as smart as the inputs it receives. I'm curious if there are other Canadian NICO members that have the same issues with the bluetooth, but are on other cellular networks...

Maybe there is a guy at the Factory that dials a p0rn Chat Line as his Test Number and enters that code ?
