Ok, first off I want to give a wag of the finger to my roll cage. It was welded into the car without having been painted prior. Wtf indeed. Moving on...

Things I did today:

- Put a new 300zx fuel filter onto the RB26 because it had a smaller one from a Nissan Sentra.

- Spent about 3 hours with my roomy and business partner, Josh, using steel wool to remove rust from the cage.

- Spent a few more hours with Josh masking the inside of the car.

- Spent about a half an hour preparing the cage metal for paint with Metal Ready.

- Waiting until 1030PM to begin hand-painting the cage with POR-15 Old's Gold engine enamel. I want the cage to be bullet-proof and gold, so POR 15 is where it's at.

Future work will include:

- Touch up paint for interior shell

- Still debating, but I think I'm going to lay carpet in the interior.

- Seibon Carbon Fiber Hood

- Dyno-Tune (car is tuned at 1.2 bar so I turned it down to 1 bar to be safe)

- Matching bride seat

- Oil catch pan for breather valve

- Gold reflective film under exhaust

- plug or cover all open holes in the shell

Here's a bummer, though. I'm leaking power steering fluid. DOOOHH! Oh well, I'll fix that too.

Here are a few pics of the fun:

Let the rust begin!

Yes, I put on thick latex gloves after the shot

Bummer...

Changed the oil...

More pics of tonight's work. The camera flash exaggerates the first coat's lack of coverage. That and the first three pics are halfway through. It's really fully covered and looks good with the coat, but I want it to be perfect.

I'm going to be adding a second coat tomorrow.

Yeah it looks kinda ridiculous right now. I just finished up the second coat about 20 mins ago. I have to wait until this time of night to be out there painting because it is WAY too hot during the day here in AZ. It gets to about 115-125 in my garage.

I'll put some pictures up tomorrow. I am going to finish detailing the cage, and then buff and clear coat after the enamel has cured for about a week.

Thanks, Brandon.

I'm headed out for a bit but will upload pics later today of the second coat. It looks so damn good in comparison to bare metal.

certainly don't plan on crashing it. I'm not a total newb with cars so you guys don't have to worry. i've had plenty of formal instruction and seat time on the track and also have a clean driving record for the street.
