I keep getting asked the same question,

"How do get the lazy eyes on my car headlights?"

Well folks, you have two options: one is to install a switch, and the other is to purchase the pivot controller.

I have put up a technical webpage discussing how to do this modification, along with several options to do it. It is located here.

Since when was sleepy eyes considered rice? I didn't know doing this mod to a 240 involved buying blue bulbs or clear tail lights...

nor does sleepy eye put massive disgusting graphics or as I call them "paint streaks" on the side of your car. Nor does it involve planting a parkbench on your trunk, nor does it put a fake BOV thingie in your engine bay.

Not like removing your headlights and sleepy-eyeing your car will reduce your underhood temp drasticaly on a track day...

my question would be, "what do you consider 'rice'?" if it has anything to do with visually enhancing your car, then this might be considered rice. But if rice was a fine-line between enhancing your car visually, and just plain bad taste...then no. But where is that fine line between making your car look cool (to you) vs. making it look rice? Also, who decides what rice is? just thought i'd throw that out there.

and for the record, i consider myself to have good taste (of course, that is my opinion), but i do like the sleepy-eyed look.

Alright folks, I havn't had time to work on the sleepy eyes board because of the 240sx bbq meet/clutch swap today.

As far as where the project stands - I have implemented and tested 3 out of the 5 functions of this controller: headlight up, headlight down, and sleepy eyes. The other two functions, wink left eye, and wink right eye, have been implemented but not tested yet.

Once all 5 functions have been verified to be working correctly without any glitches, my next step would be to redo the PCB to shrink its size, find a housing for it, and add push-buttons towards the front of the housing. It will most likely end up being about the same size as your typical boost controller/turbo timer, but with 5 buttons on it.

Wiring for this controller will be extremely simple. It will have three sets of wires in the rear of the box. One is power/gnd, which can go to ignition, and the other two sets are for the left headlight and right headlight. I will try to find the type of connector plugs used on the headlight motor so installation will just be a matter of unplugging the connector and connecting it to the controller.

For pricing on this controller - I have no idea how much it will cost yet. However, the more people who are interested, the cheaper it will be as I can purchase a larger lot of parts and pcb for cheaper. Ready-to-use kits will be available soon, could be as long as a couple of months, or as soon as a few weeks.

sounds like a good idea, if u can get it working and looks good then u could make a good amount of money selling these on ebay and such. i would price it at around 10 - 20 $ for each one.. (20$ for ebay, 10$ for the ppl on this boar and other boards) :) ...

No. None of the pivot controllers and even the DIY switch have the ability to "wink" a specific headlight. The pivot controllers wire directly into the headlight relay and the DIY switch connects into the headlight button plug itself...which goes through the same relay. Now bruins idea is to basically bypass the relay and plug directly into the headlight motor behind the bumper. The pivot controller and the DIY switch both have the ability for you to leave the headlights on even while in sleepy mode. I'm not sure about the newer Pivot RHU-M, but my older model controller (RHU-X) has 8 different heights I can set the lights at. I personally like this a lot because the headlights don't always have to be at one preset sleepy eye spot.

Bruin, your controller won't have this ability will it? And just to add another two cents I am confused why you think "winking" the lights would be cool? One light up the other down, one light half up the other down...even seeing one go up while the other is down just makes me thing stuff is broken.
