here are a couple pics of 240's with carbs. Both have webers and are in Datsun 510's I think.

Check out the datsun forum of this website and also ebay for parts.

Why would you want to carburate a KA in the first place? I mean it does look kinda cool, I have to admit, but wouldn't it be way less efficient? I mean carburation can't really compare to fuel injection anymore. Btw, it looks like a lot of work, and how would you go about tuning the ECU?

Actually you don't need an ecu since you don't need to control fuel injectors or anything like that. Ignition can be controlled by a retrofited 4 cylinder L-series distributer and ignition. As for effieciancy, carbs can actually do pretty well, but that depends on the tuning. Their major down fall is their lack of adaptability to different climates and elevations. Her's some more pics with ka's and carbs. http://hybridka.com/kagallery/gallerypg1.htm

what was your point? that with a carb setup you can bypass your ecu/fuel injection that is already running the car well in your 240sx?

Which I hear can be a pita if you aren't very experienced with carb tuning, and can be even harder with side draft carbs which is what you would probably end up with (and would look the coolest).

not any regular shop. i wouldnt trust someone without experience on the specific carbs or engine to do it. your best bet is a shop that does datsuns and nissans and has experience with carb setups on L-engines and if youre lucky, carbed KA's too.

d!ck is right, most "performance" shops probably woulnd't know what to do when they saw them. Here is a basic guide to choosing and setting up Weber carbs. It doesn't seem too hard to get set-up, but i'm sure the fine tuning would be pretty hard.

if its legal where you live or if its jsut for track use I would try the carbs. They are expensive if you get everything new but if you find "good" used stuff it would be fun. I had carbs so it wasnt so bad. You would need a different fuel pump, carb/lnkge/manifold, and a modified distributor to control spark advance etc.. I would think any shop that frequently work on 4cyl race engines, and or vw bugs/datsun would be able to tune your carbs. Most important (other than sound working engine) is good working or rebuildable carbs. then you would try to make the carbs synched(tools are available although it can be done by ear), then you can mess with idle, pilot, mains jets. I couldnt help you on jetting since my friend has the jet kit so I dnt pay attention to what he puts in my carbs(mikuni phh btw) BUT I could bother him on base jetting to start off but like I said, anybody that deals with 4cyl carb racing engines could tune em for you. sorry for bad punctuation and run-on sentences. Do it! carbs sound really Mean and can be eficient.

If your serious about doing this, a motorcycle shop would have the tools and the know how to get your carbs balanced and tuned.

the carbed idea is wicked crazy. I have never thought about or even asked about a carbed 240. If you know how to work on carbs than it is way easier to work on than fuel injection. ecu's give me headaches sometimes. lol
