So I was informed a few days ago that a website was using one of MY pictures on their website to advertise products for the 1984 to 1989 300ZX models. I contacted them asking what they were going to give me in compensation. It took a couple days, but they removed my image and replaced it with another known community Z31 member's car. They're now telling me that the owner contacted them and said it was okay for them to use it. Funny since the owner hasn't been online for a couple days.
Anyway, screen capture of my car being used.
And a screen capture of the new car in use.
As this has been broadcast around the different Z31 forums, it's been determined that a number of the images appear to be stolen from different Cardomain accounts.
We're putting this up here to let everyone else see what a bunch of crooks this company is. The lies they spread. The theft of people's pictures used so they can make money.
And now for some pre-answered questions...copyright infringement. Don't even go there. The original images are automatically protected by international copyright laws as soon as they were published on a website. This means that any images posted on a website, message board, etc are property of the owner. Those images may not be rebroadcast without express permission from the copyright owner.
Now if someone wants to take my pictures and use them on their personal website as an example of a Z31 or whatever, that's fine. But when a company is profiting from a picture I took and not compensating me in any fashion, it tends to tick me off.
Do you really care? Had they asked for my permission, I might have been okay with it. I might have asked for some compensation or discount on a purchase at their store. But now, as they didn't ask permission, it's theft. So yes. At this point, I do care. I'm no longer flattered, I'm annoyed.
Oh, and before they took the picture down, they sent a reply to another member who was aware of the situation. It was a flat out lie. Quote »Tommy,What year is your 300ZX, all the pictures on our site are of customers carsbut we do not have the specifics you're looking for.The vehicle pictured belongs to a customer of ours, you may be able to findthe owner on cardomain.com.[/quote]Oh, so finally, a link to their website. Maybe you recognize one of the other cars on their site that are "customers".
