Here's the full press release on the new car:

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/0...buts/

It's HEAVY though, like 3,439lbs for the 4 cylinder. That's a LOT of heft for a car with only 233hp.

I was really hoping for more like 2,800-3,000lbs. I'm not sure how all this extra weight is going to impact handling.

No word on price as yet. Hopefully we'll see the 4-cylinder come in right around $20,000.

EDIT: Apparently there WILL be a lightweight version for enthusiasts, so we needn't worry. A targa variant is also apparently in the works.

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/0...ollo/

If this car is seriously good and it sells this is going to change EVERYTHING. Expect every major automaker to follow up with product in this segment. This is going to be so awesome.

Here's hoping it's half decent and dirt cheap. 310 hp for under 30K (Canadian) would be very tempting. Anything more than that and it's aiming too high.

I agree with what the OP said. This car is going to be a revolution for all other car manufactures. Since there the only company with enough brains to produce a 2 door RWD 4 cylender thats not a convertible and has back seats, its going to have a big market.

Not to mention, that thing looks BAD ***. The interior could use a little redesigning, but other than that, ESPECIALLY for a new car, the looks blow me away. Im suprised there are no altezza tails, or crazy LED patterns or wierd *** stuff going on with the car. Me like

What they should do for the turbo I4 version is get rid of some luxury stuff (if there is any) or random other stuff to get rid of some weight. There also shouldnt be any technological bullcrap like TCS and stuff. I dont know if that adds weight since its a computer, but either way, it doesnt need it.

And for those of you who havnt seen yet....

Interior is a little ugly IMO.. but ive seen worse

The seats are nice... thats about it. I cant stand the shape of things in the center console/dash area, and the gauge cluster

So i guess that, and the cars weight is its weak point. But if this car goes for the price they are claiming, then no matter what, this car is going to kick some ***

This car is going to be legendary as its gonna be the first type of car like this (rwd, 2 door, 4 cyl, back seats, cheap) since the 90's

Hyundai is gonna make an assload of money as well. Too bad Nissan and Toyota wont try this...

I still think it looked over-styled. But the appeal of a new FR chassis that will surely spur the aftermarket ecomony fills me with hope and wonder. Even if it *is* KDM...

I saw the sedan at the Chicago Auto Show. I must say that I'd rock the sedan hard and only cheat on the weekends.

Sheesh! I actually like it but I hate how they are copying the G37. They aught to use some of their own ideas instead of copying Infiniti.

they were showing engine bay pics on one of the other forums and suprizingly looked very similar to an SR in shape.

220ISH HP, VVT(I mean CVT), 6speed.

It looks like they took a G37+ an SR= gensis.

GENESIS COUPE SE (Preliminary packaging subject to change)Unique SE equipment:

• 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or 3.8-liter DOHC V6• HID headlights • Aluminum pedals• Manual A/C • 19-inch alloy wheels • High performance Bridgestone Potenza RE050A summer tires• Brembo braking system with monobloc four-piston calipers • SE track-tuned suspension / front strut brace • Limited-slip differential • Black leather bolsters / red cloth insert seats• Rear spoiler • Aero wiper blades

sounds hot as hell to me

I hate to be that guy...but...

This car won't revolutionize the industry. They sell decently, MAYBE turn a profit in a couple of years. But it isn't going to see anything special.

The aftermarket might be decent for the turbo'd one, but it's going to be heavy, sluggish, and take time to see real performance breakthroughs.

They are attracting attention from enthusiats, but the majority of people that buy cars buy econo-boxes for a reason. They're typically a better value, safer, and higher MPG.

This car is going to loose value quick, won't be 5-star crash test rated, and get ~25MPG or so.

Sorry to burst the bubble.

Whatever, its going to be good for us enthusiasts, no matter how you slice it. I for one am excited. I wonder how tall it is. New cars these days always seem WAY taller to me than older ones. I parked my 97 prelude next to a G35 yesterday and was alarmed at how much taller the G35 (coupe) was. Perhaps this is why new cars weigh so much damn more (along with all the safety crap). Also, the door lines seem waaay higher to me too.

Accord coupe... test drove one yesterday... not a bad car, but god damn, try sticking your arm out the window. Just look, the bottom of the window is at the dude's chin! Couple that with a sandpaper like material at the top of the door that will chew the **** out of your arm, which I have found on most of today's cars... and kiss the "arm out the window" days goodbye.

I get what your saying, but the old FWD tibby sold great. And that was FWD and way underpowered. Most of the owners were people looking for a sporty "looking" car, or just random other people. As long as theres still the 4 cyl for saving gas and the automatic transmission as an option, your still going to have those buyers. Except this time, your going to be adding enthusiasts to the group. Not only that, but this being the only car of its type in this time era, it doesnt have any competitors, and this is somthing people WANT.

with that being said, i dont see how this wont sell as good as the old ones.

I doubt the Tiburon turned a big profit either.

There are a lot of them, yes. Because they were very cheap, semi-sporty and safe. This car will be either safe nor cheap. I'm sorry, this car is too much sport to be girl and too much girl to be sport. And will most likely top $25K easy. Then your in Mustang/used Vette/BMW terriorty for sport car shoppers and in Sky/Solstice/ for looks...

It's going to be tough for this to gain traction through the marketplace.

Hyundai’s new coupe caught uncoveredPosted on Friday 9 November 2007

Hyundai’s new Genesis coupe has been caught uncovered at a market research event sitting next to its toughest competitor, the Ford Mustang. The car was photographed by someone at the event, however nobody has claimed responsibility for the pictures, which turned up on an online forum. The final production version is expected to debut late next year as a 2009 model but a near-production concept version will be unveiled at next month’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

The new car will replace the current FWD Tiburon coupe but will feature a much more powerful V6 engine and possibly the new ‘Tau’ V8 powerplant for a flagship model. Rumors suggest a 2.0L Turbo engine with 215hp and 217ft.lb of torque will get an incredibly good price of $19,900, while a 3.8L V6 with 300hp and 280ft.lb would be priced higher at $25,990. It’s also suggested the car would get a limited slip diff and optional Brembo brakes.

As you can tell from the aggressive styling, Hyundai is clearly looking to succeed with this coupe where the Tiburon could not. As a company looking to move up in the world, Hyundai is doing a great job styling its new products such as this and the upcoming large Genesis sedan. It’s still likely, however, that Hyundai will use a different badge for the new coupe, just as it did with the Tiburon.

You'd look sluggish too if you only had 20 feet of runway with walls on both sides.

I also noticed they announced it as the 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe, so instead of shooting for an October 08 release they decided to push it back another year, guess they can't agree on a price point yet. That or they are awaiting to see what the market looks like once the Evo X and GTR drop. I understand they are in the same price range but Mitsu is releasing a turboed Ralli-Art edition of the Lancer which will be plus the new SRT4 Caliber is being released and the new Cobalt SS is also turboed this year so they have alot of competition in their price range. Fanboys will eat it up because it is RWD and turboed.

I'll put it at 24500-26K for the I4 model, 26-28K for the Enthusiast model and close to 30k for the V6 model. Personally I don't like the way it looks without the Carbon Fiber. I'll take the Mitsu Ralli-Art Lancer please, it's going to put the WRX on the shelf, it looks a hell of alot better and should prove to perform better as well.
