crazy rpm gauge

95 240sxka24de

what would cause my rpm gauge to sometimes not work?it works fine most of the time but every once in a while in either stops working completely and/or it jumps up and down and then it resumes normal operation. thanks for the help

Most likely the wiring... You would have to check a lot of different things before you can tell exactly what though...

i had one that did that. i changed out my tach gauge and it has been fine ever sense then my guess it was a short in the gauge

My DD pathfinder's tach is doing the exact same thing, I haven't cared though since its an auto. Wiring then?

Still nothing, moved the gauge all the way to the right and now it just sits there. Well.... it is a gauge that tells you how many RPM's your engine is producing. But fine, it's a tachometer. Not the wiring since I spliced my turbo timer into the signal wire at the cluster and it reads fine at the TT.
