for all that want a stubby antenna with out loosing radio reception here is you answer.

first you will need to buy an On-Star antenna mast for any '01-'05 GM vehicle: part #15174755. these can be found easily on eBay for under $20 or the dealership for $36

once you get your antenna you will need to buy a small threaded 6mm x 100 rod about 1.5-2 inches in length. can be found at lowes or home depot and cost less than $1. it would be smart to take you antenna with you.

now take the rod and screw it in to your antenna

next you need to remove your stock antenna. you can remove it with an adjustable wrench or with you hands if it is loose enough

now your ready to install you new stubby antenna. just screw it in and make sure its tight.

here is your final project with 98%-100% of the stock antenna reception

the total project should cost you no more that $50 max

will this work on s13s? The threaded rod size is what I am unsure of.

I've got a broken antenna on my vert and I like the looks of a smaller one.

well i guess i could always put some lock tight 242 on it and then it would be safe. it would have to be heated for it to come out then

Thank you so much for this info My car rejected my power antenna(it was bent, first time I turn the car on it literally pushed it self out). This should be a nice solution.

Pretty cool. Just wanted to throw in there, that this wont work if you have an electric antenna right now. You have to have the hard/whip antenna. Or you will have to change out the base piece that's attached to the car.And I think this has also been written up before. With the same antenna. Not sure. But I like to see that people contribute on a daily basis. Gives me something to look forward to when I come home every day.

I have the electric antennae, but it doesn't go up anymore, I can hear it, but nothing. There is no reason why this wouldn't work for me then right?

The base isn't threaded on the motorized antenna so no this will not work for you

I just got done doing this on my s14 1 week ago with the exact same antenna. I would say if you live in the same city that the radio stations you listen to are in you should be alright. But after I replaced my antenna I get maybe 5-10% reception. Before I replaced my antenna the radio could lock onto at least 20 stations, now my radio won't even lock on a single station because none come in completely clear. I did it mostly for cosmetics since I almost never listen to the radio, but if you do listen to the radio a lot I wouldn't suggest this antenna.

I made the rod just long enough to where it didn't hit the bottom. Do you live real close to your stations?

That's strange, the only one that comes in somewhat clear now is about 36 miles away. The rest are not clear enough to put up with and are probably closer to 50-60 miles away. I expected you to be closer to have such good results though. I'll have to check again once I get my car out on the road and see if maybe it does better.
