my friend found this out when he's was messing around under the hood of his 05 sedan. underneath the airbox is ANOTHER baffle to reduce noise. he pulled his out (broke it) and now his car sounds and runs a little faster. it's location is perfect, too. it's behind a sheet of steel the seperates it from the radiator. Free Cold Air Intake!

i've got the Stillen CAI. last night after installing an engine damper we went ahead and looked at my intake. underneath of the Stillen airbox is a hole that this baffle goes into. i removed my airbox, unscrewed one screw and broke the other one off that connect the baffle to the car, and reinstalled my airbox. this morning i took her for a spin and i noticed a little difference in performance and sound.

for anyone that's even minorly mechanically inclined i HIGHLY reccomend this mod. IT"S FREE!

Uhm...I'm not sure about the sedan but the coupe has this resonator below the air box as well, I removed mine when I installed my CAI. I had to, it was in the way because my filter for my CAI sat down in the place the factory resonator sat. You shouldn't have to "break" anything though it's held in by 2 bolts. The first is easy to get to facing the radiator you can fit a socket on it, the other not so much located on the outer side of the frame rail facing the engine bay on a tab extending below the resonator so it's between the inner fender wall and the rail, but you can remove it with a small open end 10mm wrench because the resonator fills up the remaining space you'ld normaly have for a socket.

Granted for those less patient that do not care about reverting to stock in case a warranty issue pops up it's probably easier to break it off but if you're patient you'll have the bolt out after about 15 minutes (it's a farely long bolt that never seemed to get easy to turn {ie: with fingers} with limited space to turn the wrench) I'll go out and take pictures of mine later today I still have all the stock parts in a box .

Sounds like what we call a "GAB" within the Maxima community (Ghetto Air Box). Make holes in the factory airbox to increase airflow.

i wasn't sure about the coupes so i didn't mention them but it sounds like the exact same thing. i didn't have to remove this baffle to install Stillen's CAI.

definitely a GAB! every little bit helps, though, and it's hidden.

For those still unaware of what they're talking about here's a few pics to help you showing the tabs on the resonator, the one hard to get out bolt hole on the frame rail, and another angle of the resonator closer to how it would be installed showing just why it's a PIA to remove. Keep in mind above as stated the sedan is being talked about but I don't have one I have a coupe and it sounds like the same setup so here ya go .

first one showing the bolt hole on the frame rail circled in red that is the hardest to remove took me about 15 minutes on the one bolt .

second one showing both tabs on the resonator the bolts go through.

and third one showing it from more of a top angle which is more what you'll be working with when removing it, the airbox on top will already be out of the way but believe me on the bolt furthest to the rear of the engine bay it's not going to help. REd circle shows the easy bolt up front, the green arrow points towards the location of the hard one. can't see it anymore cause the resonator body blocks it.

Hope this helps a few. Plan on an acheing back after taking the time to remove that stupid rear bolt ....or maybe I'm getting old at a mere 30

I did the same thing...removing all that crap below the airbox took more time than the install of the Z-Tube and new Airbox.

Just out of curiosity, for those of you who removed everything properly, how much time did you spend on changing everything including installing the new intake system ?

Personally due to many factors not least of which was no install instructions with the new CAI, dropping a clip inside the front bumper reuiring partial disassembly and strategic hitting with my hand below the clip to knock it over to the corner, being dark etc. etc. took me about 4hrs to jimmy mine in and test drive it for about 15 of those minutes.

It took me 40 minutes to remove all the old intake parts (including the lower component below the air filter) and install my Stillen Short-Ram.

I believe they are talking about the piece directly below the heatshield of your JWT intake kit.

correct. underneath the heat shield. with the jwt pop charger's heat shile installed it may not be necessary to remove this baffle. my stillen heat shield/airbox has a hole cut out for this baffle. the pop charger might not.

ok, so Im guessing this is something i removed when i took out the stock air box......from the throttle body i connected the Z-tube, then connected to the pop charger...so there is nothing else i need to remove........darn...thought I could do something for free !!!! oh well, thanks for the help !

Nope, call it tired if you will, lack of food whatever, but things just didn't go right. 2 minutes into the job I dropped one of the airduct inlet clips down onto the skidplate/lower cover. Took me like 15-20mins to find and remove the clip...keep in mind this is with no flashlight starting at 11:30pm so not much light except the fixed one on the roof of the overhang, another 20-30 minutes to run back to the apartment get adobe working long enough to see how to remove the front bumper and grill, then another 15-30 to get everything loose from the bumper/fender well/skid plate, except the bolts by the turn signals so I could seperate the lower cover from the bumper enough to stuff the filter in from the bottom cause it wouldn't fit from the top.

Then I had fitment issues, had to disconnect and cut some of the rubber couplings down in size so that it fit closer together. Then had to go back and remove the filter lube the inner lip a bit so I could then jam it on an 1/8 inch more or so. I did stop and have smokes along the way so take out another 10 minutes a piece for about 4 of those. So I basically spent an actual 2hrs on removal, install, and reassembly of the front clip. The rest was taken up by stupid crap and good'ol murphey that just ate up time

Took about 20 minutes. The bottom bolt was easiest to get to with the left hand w/1/4 drive & 3 inch extention & 10MM bending over the driver side fender.

Top bolt was taken out with a ratchet wrench. ez, but it was a LONG bolt

Same baffle deal was on my pathy's.

i actually ordered a set of ratcheting wrenches because of that long a$$ bolt. i killed my knuckles getting it out. i wonder if they hid any more baffles in that thing.

the whole thing is just BAFFLING! get it!
