I had Wes & mtcookson looking into this for me, but it's getting a bit stale so I thought I'd throw it out into the public arena where there are more people to potentially get cracking on investigating this.
Info on Z22E rods is scarce... but what I did was take the listed compression height of 30.4mm for the VQ30DET piston, and subtract that from the 220.35mm deck height, and half the stroke, which left me with 148.6mm required from a rod.
I then googled 148.6mm +conrod, and hey presto I stumbled upon the 1981-1983 Z22E rod. Further information suggests it's wider at the big end than the VH rods, has a 53mm big end diameter (55 on VH, so only 1mm radius of material to machine out to use it), and 23.5mm pin diameter that we could bush down.
Now we just need to actually measure up a rod and see how strong it looks, so we can determine whether or not it'd be a viable solution and if modifying it to fit will be possible.
Imagine that, two stock, off the shelf nissan parts, cheap as chips, combined to let us boost the VH45 like you can a VQ30DET
Anyone/everyone please investigate this! I pretty much can't get access to a Z series engine in my country, but I imagine they'd be relatively common in the USA, as well as new connecting rods, so please investigate and post your findings!
