Im going try to do a "mini" write up on how to make a DIY JDM Tyte key. Its a lil poor craftsmanship but its just some practice till I get it right.
I used a spare house key cause I didn't want to chop up my car key just yet.I didn't take pics of me actually doing the step cause it totally slipped my mind at the time. Sorry guys. so I took some pics afterwards to give you a idea. But im pretty sure you can figure it out.
*Note* I didn't have all the proper tools to do this so I might of ghettoed a few things.
The only things I used were: a torch, vice grips, cutting pliers, tape (not pictured), and some common sense.
1.) Secure the screwdriver to a flat surface with the actual head sticking off of the edge. ( I used clear tape and a 5lb. weight. Told ya I was being gehtto)
2.) Heat up the metal end of the screwdriver like so.
3.) Pull out the metal tip with vice grips.
4.) Take your car key (in my case my house key, but I used a car key to show you cause of my late thinking) and put it up to the handle of whats left of the screwdriver and measure what to trim off of your key.
5.)Trim your key. ( This step might be different depending on the application.) I use some really sharp cutting pliers, You can use what ever you desire to get the job done.
6.) After trimming, use a marker to make where the key will be inserted on the handle.( I marked mine in a diagnal due to size)*No picture**
7.) Use your vice grips to hold the key, (like pictured.)
8.) With your torch, heat up the end of the key that is exposed.**No Picture**
9.) When your key is hot ( I waited till it turned red ) insert it into the handle where you marked in step 6. Hand Eye coordination is key. ( You don't want to stab your hand with a burning hot key do you know?)**No Picture**
10.) this is what it should look like. ( Yes, I do know its a different screwdriver, I retook some pics to show you the steps.)
here is the out come of about 45 min...I stole the key chain part off of one of my little cousins happy meal toys. What it looks like in the door lock
Hope this was useful. enjoy.
