I know the warranty issue threads have been posted many times over.This time im concerned with insurance.

If i were to lower the car 1 inch, the bumper placement would be illegal in my province ( Ontario). So if i were to get into an accident, im wondering if the insurance company has the right to reject coverage b/c say..The bumper did not do its job b/c of the lowering..

Feedback would be good! :D

Based on my limited knowledge of how insurance works and how insurance companies are thieves which will looks for ANY and EVERY reason to void your insurance policy and refuse payment, I would highly suggest not doing anything that is illegal and can cause your insurance company to protect themselves. If lowering the car opens that window for your company and will give them an excuse not to pay (should anything happen), then I don't think it's worth it. Then again, maybe the company will not even know that the car was lowered.

I would like to help, but need a little more information;

Is it illegal to lower a vehicle in Ontario? If it is, you already answered your question. If anything illegal is done to the vehicle, then of course your insurance company will refuse to cover it because your car does not comply with your province's regulations.

What exactly do you mean by bumper placement? Are you talking about clearance from the ground (measurement from pavement to bottom of bumper)?

Im not sure if its illegal to drop the car but what i mean by bumper placement is ..

Every car has its bumper placed in a certain spot so if it were to get into an accident, the bumper would take the impact. Lowering the vehicle would place the bumper out of this range and basically the car would receive impact elsewhere.

I remeber talking to my dealer about lowering the car, he said thats what would happen, so im not sure about insurance. But consider this.. Like everywhere else, we have plenty of civics dropped to the ground. The civics that hit the curb when there going over speed bumps.. See alot of them.

Ill try to find if its legal or not.

If a large SUV or truck hit you, trust me, your bumper would not be taking all or most of the impact.

Just go with the Pro-Kit 1" drop and most won't know that it's dropped. When insurance asks, just play stupid and go --->

Then start --->

Sure your lowering the area of impact if you were to get hit. You won't be getting a dramatic drop if you get the Eibach's like my man Eric suggested. Sounds like your thinking about a slammed Civic that has the potential to get wedged underneath the bumper of a truck

Speaking of getting wedged:

^ Now how in the world does that happen

^ That last one is a new car. It's an afermarket mod so you can have up to 10 passengers (5 in each car) with 2 drivers and 6 wheels on the ground.
