Bought some snow chains. You drape them over the top of the tire and fasten them. You dont need to jack up car. I fastened the inside first. You might have to move a car a bit for final adjustment. 3 notches on inside.Drive car a few meters to stretch chains and then try adjusting.

So you live in Vancouver and don't run snow tires for the winter? Or do you run snow tires and use these in conjunction?

Just wondering. I think tire cables are a little more tire (and road) friendly. They hook up the same way, and in 'Z' patterns as well. If I were you I'd just rock studded Blizzaks or something.. if it's that bad up there for chains.

Studded snow tires are the way to go. but is all subject to local laws. You call always pull the stud and keep using the tires as regular ones if you have to.....Like after moving down South...etc.

Why would you get checked for chains?

i think its something like...if you dont have m+s tires and get stuck or wreck, it deals with tow trucks or insurance or something. just a safety precaution.

You dont need studded snow tires. Get either the new blizzak ws-60's or the nokian rsi's and they have just as good or better performance as a studded tire. Also studded tires absolutly suck on dry or wet pavement but the new generation of studless tires drive almost as good as a all season.

in far northern cali, its quite common to get checked for chains on some mountain highways if there is a snow warning, during the winter. so any trips home for thanksgiving and whatnot that i take the s13, i toss the box in and say i have chains. but i wouldnt put chains on my 240, seen too many get tossed and beat the hell out of the fender.

Come visit me on the other side of the state and go for a drive into NC over the mountains. They've got like two plows here and I think one of them may even work.

Fortunately I'm used to driving in my 240 in Chicago winters.

And whoever mentioned Blizzaks was absolutely right...best snow tire I've ever had on a car.
