Disclaimer: This is not easy. It is not cheap. The 1st one you make will likely cost more than to buy one. It is frustrating and very time consuming. I would not reccommend doing this unless you really enjoy making things and love your car.

1) Basic Supplies: Pink styrofoam insulation for basements. Bondo body filler & glazing putty. Fiberglass Resin & Mat. Belt sander. Dremmel tool. Sanding block & paper. Sharp scissors. Half a brain. Half crazy. Too much spare time. [IMG]

2) Cut out basic shape of spoiler, and sand it to a good finish. (3-4 hrs) depending on design intricacy. Do not make your design too complicated. It will just end up looking like **** because it takes too much time to get it to look right. Use something simple and clean. I wich I would have used a simpler and cleaner design, but i had to make it big enough to cover up the bubbles. * the more sharp angles you use the more difficlut the design will be.

* dont forget to test fit it, to make sure everything lies up right. Make it slightly smaller than you want it, say 1/2 inch smaller in every direction.

3) Wrap the whole thing in painters tape.

This is what happens if you don't.

4) Cover the spoiler in fiberglass. (TIME: 3-4 applications allwing FG to cure between applications) cut off sand sand down any pices of FG that stick out.

5) Body fill it. Don't use too much hardener if it is warm out, it will start to harden before you get it smoothed out. (takes a long time and many applications. *Between applications you should sand and remove uneven chunks of body fill.

6) When you are happy with the shape and just need to fill in the small pinholes. Glazing putty is your next step.

Ligtly sand between applications. (* allow to dry overnight at least)

7) Primer. Go pretty heavy on it.

Black Primer:

More pics to come once it is carbon wrapped.

Basically anyone with free thoughts of your own can do this. Fiberglass is not a hard material to work with. You have to have a little creativity and LOTS of patience. You have made the mistakes already, so now others dont have to. nice spoiler. I think it would be fun to make one.

Not a real fan of the spoiler, IMO it's kinda boxy.

Definitely A+ for effort tho, very nice job.

It's not done. It will be carbon next week.

I think I will have to do some editing etc before any custom title would be in order.

Thanks. But i'd have to charge $5000 a spoiler to make it worth my while. I'm a dentist so my time is expensive.

You're a dentist? :O Why don't you have a G35 or something? ... Well I guess those are accountant cars, but still, a car that came into production 18 years ago?

Well technically not a dentists yet. 78% a dentist. I don't like dealerships. I won't buy a new car. I like to break it and fix it myself, not have to fight with dealers that won't honour their warranties.

Yeah but the difference is at that rate you won't get to do a facial until you're 60, and I'll be deep into 6 figures before you get to see your 1st puss.

I think you did a great job. But that style is a little boxy for Hatch.

If you don't mind me suggesting, extending it a little bit. Not too giagantic like the Wangan, but just a little for the nice flowing aerodynamic of the hatch~

Great JOB! I wanted to do something similar on my Coupe, but haven't acted on it. A+ for innovation!

how the hell does the wing make his car look square?

<--waiting on the carbon fiber portion

also, what'd you use to hold the foam together?

I love the custom work.I can't wait to see the carbon fiber work though. Please include the details on what you use as far as epoxies and resins go for the CF and where you got them when the time comes! Thanks because I'm unable to figure out how to fix a chipped CF hood.

yeah, I agree.

I know it must take days upon days. I love to see people do things outside of the box. You can always buy a Wangan and gangbang spoiler, but there's no passion in it.

Innovation and engineering is the truth behind the passion.

And it's 1 of a Kind.

A+++
