Hey guys

I just bought a 01 QX4, needs a little TLC, one of the first things I wanna do is hook up my stereo Ive got in my room. I dont know much about my stock speakers and was hoping someone could give me some info on them so I could upgrade them.

I also wanna add an amplifier for my subs in the back. Was curious if these cars came stock with outputs for RCAS

Does anyone else have a aftermarket stereo in there car? Where is the easiest spot to run the power/rca/remote wires?

Thanks for your help

you can add an amp and a sub. all you need to do is tap into the rear speaker wire.

i believe the stock deck does not come stock with RCA output.

i have an after market - pioneer stereo in my 96 pathfinder. soon i will install a navigation in 01 pathfinder.

to run the wire, if you look on driver side. there is two bolt holding up a cover. i wish i had a picture but i don't. if you Google a bit you should find what i am talking about. this i believe is the hold for the manual pathfinder.

you can run the power wire through there.

I rourted the power cable through the same hole ganesh mentioned. Its liek a diamond shape, with 2 bolts. I drilled a hole in it. I have my power on the drivers side and signal wires on the passenger side there are no RCA's on your deck. you want to tap into the speaker wire near the speaker so its after the amp. The easiest one is passenger side rear speaker. At the deck is still before the amp and you dont want that signal. My suggestion for higher quality sound is to replace everything, including the deck..... if u add a sub, you will still have muddy mids and highs but a lot of bass..... i had it like that for a year but eventually got sick of it

Yes, you lose the OEM 6 disc if you replace the head unit. It wasn't too hard for me, as my 6disc was broken before 100k miles. And my Pioneer headunit has 1200 songs on the hard-drive right now.

It's really your personal preference.... if you are fine with the way your Bose system sounds right now, then keep it, cause replacing everything gets expensive. I'm $1600 deep in my sound system as of right now, and it never ends.

Money isnt really a problem, but I dont really wanna replace things that dont need replacing. Are there even units available for our cars to fill such a huge space? Have any pics? I dont mind changing out the cd player if it makes it that much easier

they have car kit to cover up all the space.

if you change the cd player you would have to change all wires and speakers but I'm not 100% on that.

what i did was just change everything. speaker, wires, etc.

I agree...do everything or nothing

If you can live with bose then stick with it until it breaks. I just put in a kenwood x891 and it sounds horible with bose (even after tuning and adjusting the line adapter you have to use) It only took me about 2 days of that before I decided to rip out everything.

The plate is def. your best bet for the power wire, I just punched a hole in it yesterday. One of the easiest cars i've ever run a power wire through. I'll take pics tomorrow while im installing the amp. The plate is a small diamond shape as mentioned under, to the left of the power brake booster.

One thing to note, when you buy a power wire make sure to get a lil extra, most amp kits wont come with anymore then 18ft or so which may not be enough if you run the wire on the drivers side.

ya, and when you put a "single DIN" headunit into a "double DIN" slot, you make up for half of the space with a plastic pocket

you can get one at any car stereo shop

I started out just adding a subwoofer to the bose Now my system comprises of: -Pioneer 6900UB headunit with 4GB thumbdrive -JBL GTO components up front, tweeters in the OEM location -JBL GTO rear coaxials -1 JL10W3 subwoofer in ported box -1 Alpine 400w monoblock amp for the sub -1 DHD 1000w 4channel amp for the speakers -4 AWG wire to a distr block under the rear seat, splits the wires for each amp and still have 1 free 12v aux power outlet

You just wanted to show off how nice that steering wheel is lol

thumb drives an awesome alternative to a cd changer. much more practical now a days.

Distrobution block under the seat is a good idea, where'd you mount your amps?

Well if I was to buy a cd player and speakers, how hard is it to remove the 6 disc and stock stereo?

I will no questions buy a set of 4 speakers and a new cd player if I can install it easy enough and dont have to change out the speaker wires and I can plug it into my cars wiring harness

I tried playing a cd for the first time in the car today, gave me an ERR2 error... whats that mean?

hahahha.... sounds like your OEM cd player is already crapped out I used the stock wires in my QX4, but had to do some wiring in order to bypass the stock Bose amp which is on the drivers side rear quarter panel area.

And what kind of wiring involvement is that? You really think my cd player is messed up? It wont let me put a cd in anyways

Im not the greatest on wiring, nor do I know what size stock speakers these cars come with, or why they aparently have an amp....
